Storm Éowyn (24/01) - how did it affect buses?

As most of you know Éowyn is now blowing north, but it left quite a ruckus while it was in the Scottish Central Belt & Ireland.

How did it affect you in terms of buses? Could anything have been handled better? What would you have done if you were in a position of power in an affected operator?

All buses in Monifieth were halted from afternoon onwards. Stagecoach East Scotland canceled all their services about midday, while Moffat & Williamson followed suit around 3 p.m. Xplore Dundee temporarily suspended their local buses, but they were quite quickly reinstated. Electric coach operator Ember initially operated only as far north as Aberdeen and as far south as Perth. They had planned to continue to Kinross and Stirling, but this was later scrapped after a few services. Now, their services have resumed, operating to their regular destinations in Aberdeen, Glasgow, and Edinburgh.

First Glasgow , all services were off yesterday, not sure if they restarted in the evening.

McGill’s Buses and Midland Bluebird stopped running around 0900 yesterday morning, ahead of the red warning from 1000. The initial plan was to resume again in the evening, when it reduced again to amber, but the amount of damaged done meant that was virtually impossible so they didn’t run again last night. They are largely back to normal this morning, with a few routes being curtailed due to road closures, i.e. 757 & X22 terminating south of the Erskine Bridge as it remains closed.

Lothian was completely halted from 8-9am onwards, Prentice of Haddington also called off.

All bus services were suspended yesterday in Ireland until local red warnings were lifted.

They started returning on a phased basis after that, once staff were able to travel into work.

By 15:30 yesterday afternoon (4.5 hours after the lifting of the red warning), 90% of Dublin Bus services were up and running again - there were diversions in place on certain routes due to fallen trees until the evening.

Services ran in South Yorkshire as normal, only changes were X17 from Barnsley to Wirksworth via Sheffield & Chesterfield was run with single deckers rather than the usual double deckers mainly due to around Kelstedge & 218 Sheffield to Bakewell via Chatsworth ran with singles only as well.

Stagecoach East Scotland pulled everything from the Red area that morning, ie from 4am onwards. They kept Tayside services and some routes around Central and North East fife going but NOT Kirkcaldy.

Just after 1pm Everything bar Perth city services were pulled.

They were hoping to restart services but as mentioned to many tree issues etc made it impossible and thus Perth local services finished around 7-8pm?
