Can platforms 1 and 2 at Cambridge North operate in both directions?

Today sadly service was unable to operate beyond Cambridge North for the afternoon peak. Great Northern were terminating service at Cambridge rather than running to Cambridge North. Given no trains could run further north platforms 1 and 2 seemed out of use with the usual Greater Anglia service operating from platform 3.

It also meant any rail replacement services were having to contend with city traffic rather than being on the edge already.

I've just had a quick look at signalmaps and I would say that Platform 1 can't but Platform 2 possibly can. Obviously the Sectional Appendix may say different.

Edit: After looking at the sectional appendix (which isn't particularly clear), it looks like a train can enter Platforms 2 and 3 from the south, and can certainly leave southbound from platform 3, and using some common sense platform 2 also (signalmaps and google street view shows a starting signal, but the SA doesn't show P2 bi-di). From the North it isn't clear at all if platform 2 can be used to arrive into and depart from.

Platform 2 is fully bi-directional including reversals in both directions, platform 1 is Up direction only.

Thanks. It is a shame that all three platforms can't be used in both directions but two is better than one. It's a shame GN services didn't run up to Cambridge North using platform two.

Not sure if you were trying to get to Cambridge North or beyond. But if you were trying to get to CMB from the South, given the circumstances, I'd imagine you'd have been able to travel on a GA service. One could always ask Station staff for further information.

I was travelling from the South so did use a GA service but that is half as frequent. I asked staff and they told me that immediately.
