Actually for the most part Metrobus has just brought back into service previously withdrawn vehicles (specifically Fastway omnicities, 6626/9 / YN08DFL/U and ex-Southdown dart 6324/LK55ADZ), they also have YX24PDO on loan (either from ADL or Go South Coast) which replaced an ex Crawley vehicle at Copthorne which transferred back.

Had a Fastway single decker on 460 yesterday (15/01) instead of normal double decker - they seem to be putting any old bus on the route - same with 100s and 420s.

Even more unusual Fastway Hydroliner 6059 went past me on a 420 (Sutton - Crawley) today 17/01 - first time I've seen a Hydrogen bus on the double decker routes

The 420 enters the TfL area so ULEZ restrictions apply, so is this a factor? Maybe they didn't have a ULEZ compliant bus available?

I think there are a couple being used on the 420 in preparation for the double deckers which are coming

I suspect they are generally short of buses especially Double Deckers as they are supposed to have a lot of new Hydroliners in service, but they are all parked up.

Makes logical sense about the 420 and ULEZ though.

With the announcement of the new Feb timetable, considering the current shortage of vehicles will more vehicles be drafted in if the 100 Hydrogens aren't back? Or will there not be much of an affect

To be honest no idea @MotCO it was just something I saw, I don't have any knowledge at all. I feel like the whole Metrobus/B&H situation is robbing Peter to feed Paul at the moment as neither seem to have enough buses at the moment.

B&H have recently bought some ex-Sullivan's E400 MMCs, moved some Geminis to Go-North East, retired some of the ex-Southdown Super Darts. They usually know what they are doing with regard to fleet changes, but suddenly seem to find themselves short of buses. Strange.

The shortages are mostly down to the short Hydroliners at Metrobus being VOR for modifications, but by that time most of the previous fleet for Fastway route 100 was sent for scrap (reducing the active daily fleet by 12-ish), all while needing additional vehicles at Copthorne to cover vehicle repaints and refurb and losing 2 B7RLEs on loan to Go-Ahead London until April.
I don't think there are any particular issues at B&H, the 10 B5LHs were replaced by 9 E400MMCs and the 3 ex-London B9TL E400s (both indirectly I believe), so there shouldn't be any issues.

Spent a bit of time travelling the Brighton network last weekend. Have to say I was surprised at the amount of buses with bodywork damage - even some of the recent stock in new liveries.

Long scrapes on panels, metal patches, black tape on a front bumper to name but a few.

The Coaster/X1 enviros are lovely but can’t help think the interiors will fade quickly. Why don’t B&H specify tinted glazing for their buses? Go South Coast seem to on their deliveries for Bluestar, Southern Vectis etc.

Many of the previous Omnidekkas looked so faded and worn internally after a couple of years.

The fleet list has been updated with details of the 11 new Hydroliners at Metrobus with three already having arrived:

Also I completely agree @buslad1988 - pride in presentation hasn't been what it was for a while and even inside many buses it's the same with mismatched seat moquetes and multiple coloured headresets pilfered from other branded routes to cover damage. Hopefully they'll get back on top of it soon once the fleet changes calm down a bit.

Ed Wills (MD of B&H) has said on Linkedin that the first of the hydrogen deckers will enter service on Monday (3rd)

Two things strike me from that LinkedIn post. That the Decker is part funded by Surrey CC as part of the 34 they have contributed to. So presumably not for the 273, where they were on paper meant for.

And more interestingly to me at least, Ed says that from March, they will have 42 in vehicles in traffic daily.

They are currently getting around 20 a day, so that is a big big jump, presumably there's been movement on the amount they can safely fuel.

This batch were never meant for the 273, on paper or otherwise - they were bought by Surrey CC for Surrey based routes, for the deckers, the 420/460/480/820. A further batch of hydrogen buses, funded by ZEBRA2 should see service on the 273 route.

Bought by Surrey CC, not contributed to!
An incredible commitment (but a welcome one) - especially given the risks that became apparent with the hydrogen station at the depot over in neighbouring West Sussex.

Ah, ok. That makes a lot more sense. Do we know how many are due for the 420?

Assumed, clearly incorrectly that they were part funded as part of one of the Zebra schemes! It's a incredible commitment as you say, especially given the risks!

It would be an interesting question as to when the 420/460/480 last had new vehicles bought for them. Possibly in the 1980s? It has certainly been secondhand double deckers for the last twenty five years, initially buses displaced from London, more recently from Brighton). I can't imagine they are particularly lucrative.

There will be 11 Double Deckers for the routes 420 / 460 / 480 and 820. I assume the odd single decker will deputise from time to time.

There are 23 Single Deckers for the route 100 (12 in Fastway livery) and route 430/435 (11 in Metrobus livery) - these have run but are currently have a safety recall and are expected back late in February.

Apparently, the evening extensions on 460 are because the route makes a positive return. Using Surrey paid for Hydroliners, I would assume will make the route more profitable.

Does anyone know why all three of the open top Scania Enviro 400s are listed as "rw" in the Brighton bus fleet?

I wonder if they are contractually obligated to stay in the 420 etc, as currently the Brighton Services do occasionally get swapped into those boards.

Do we know if it went into service today?

They are supposed to keep them away from Brighton route - but they have more on order I think. There is a Facebook group that covers Metrobus but they don't seem to let new people in.

I live on 420/460 route and kept an eye open today - none is service as far as I can see

Saw a UID Hydrogen Single Deck at Brighton station this morning about 0845 "Not in service" - nothing obvious in Bus Times etc.

The 2 full height unbranded streetdecks (854 and 855) from Lewes road and a B9TL Eclipse Gemini 2 (456) From Whitehawk garage transferred to Conway street depot. Seems unlikely Is there a shortage of buses at Conway? Seems unreasonable to just randomly transfer 3 buses to a another depot.

I think the members of the forum already know this, but the ex sullivan e400mmcs are probably gonna stay in Lewes road bus garage; in the current fleet, all of the 2016 low height Streetdecks remaining in Lewes Road are the ones being cascaded to Conway Street depot (except 822-824) to run on Conway routes which includes the 2.

I think, what may be happening is a consolidation of the unbranded Streetdecks to Conway to assist there, as opposed to a shortage.

I was due to be at least near the area in July but was unsure whether to go to Redhill/Crawley in case the double-deck Hydroliners were not yet in service. Now it seems they will be after all. :D

Just saw a single deck hydrogen bus open for passenger service on route 20 this morning
Nothing surprising about that. Both the 10 and 20 seem to have a full compliment of hydrogen buses today.

The more recent discussion is about the 100/420/430/435/460/480 where the single deck hydrogen vehicles are out of service and the double deck hydrogen vehicles are yet to appear.
