Kind of yes…. First it was why I want to be a driver, why do I want to work for Northern and what do I know about them. Then tell me about a time I was adaptable, how do I feel about dealing with a large amount of people. It lasted about 25 minutes then asked if I am happy to do shift work and if I had holidays in the next 6 months which I do I wrote so many notes for the phone interview but when it came to it I didn’t look at them

I've heard they have different recruitment teams in each of the 4 regions they split themselves into. So maybe different processes for different areas? Unsure but I have it today so I'm let you know what it's like!
Woodhouse lane car park is worth a look, not the closest but usually find a spot if your not too late in the morning. It's about £9 for 12 hours. There's closer ones but they can be tight spaces, fill up quick and more expensive. There's Street parking right outside the assessment center if its still on South parade but it is city center prices. Just get there early enough to get parked, don't want to be rushing around if any car parks are full
Are you not on expenses? What time do you have to be in Leeds by? It's £26.70 return if you travel on Northern via Hebden Bridge.
If internal you still have to apply and go through pretty much the same selection process as external candidates. Obviously a role like conductor can give you experience and scenarios (for example you can demonstrate being able to cope with lone working, following rules and procedures and shift work) you may wish to use as answers in your application and interviews. It's not simply a case of transferring though.
They haven't said they will pay, they didn't even give us lunch at the assessment centre . They said to get there for 9.15am, I looked from Heald Green (Stockport) which is my nearest train station to get there for around 8am and open return it was coming to over £40.
They've said I might be there all day depending on how far I got. On the assessment day in Manchester I finished at 3.25pm after starting at 9.15am. I'm going to get there early so I don't get stuck in rush hour traffic. I used to be a black cab driver in Manchester and I agree Leeds isn't the easiest place to navigate around. I'm just follow the satnav and hope for the best
I set off at 7am to get there for early to find a place to park and get some breakfast. The traffic was so bad coming off the m62 that I got to the city centre at 0845 and then had to find a place to park. It was literally stand still traffic on the motorway for about 11 miles. Google maps said it'd be about 1 hour but that traffic was a killer.
