Do paper tickets demagnetise each other?

If I store two paper tickets next to each other in my wallet, with nothing in between them and no other magnetic objects nearby that could otherwise stop them from working, will they still work the barrier or will they corrupt each other’s magstripe?

I've stored up to 8 paper tickets in a stack weeks before holidays before and not had any issues with barriers.

While "never" is a long time, it shouldn't have any effect.

The magnetic field strength needed to write to a ticket is several orders of magnitude greater than the strength of the magnetic stripe.

Storing them together shouldn't do anything, but if you have a phone with something like the iPhone's MagSafe connector, make sure you don't accidentally brush your ticket against it - trust me, that will demagnetise it!

They’ll be fine, the same way credit cards magstrips don’t corrupt each other when held together in a wallet.

I don't know if it could be related, but SWMBO's debit card stopped working contactless, at the bank they told her there were lots of these failures at the moment. We wondered whether she had put it down in her purse on a train table directly on a pendolino phone charging spot...

The important bit is usually underneath the chip which is stuck down onto wires inside the card, I’ve seen this happen when the card gets bent at the chip and breaks the bond to the antenna loop.

In theory, yes.

Since both NFC and wireless charging use induction, it's possible that the charger's "test" pulses induced enough current to fry the NFC chip. Extremely unlucky if that was the case though.

I used to buy monthly season tickets, and the ticket would often fail to work the barrier after a week or two. I'd get it replaced in Swansea ticket office. The magnetic stripe had presumably become damaged, but I was careful to keep it away from anything else magnetic.

It's mostly the gates that do the damage.

'Print-through' is a real phenomenon with magnetic tape, rarely noticeable. One mitigating factor is the thickness of the tape. CCST stock is much thicker than any magnetic tape. Also, digital recordings less susceptible. Storing tickets back to back, so the magnetic strips are touching*, would increase the risk, but still seems unlikely.
