What is happening to the Statesman stock of LSL? They seemed pretty OK aesthetically inside. Trouble with heating and air-conditioning when I have travelled sometimes.

Are they getting new equipment and a lick of paint? Or are they getting full strip back and new everything?

(Please move if this belongs in Rolling Stock threads).

It is due to be refurbished completely by LSL this year, although little details are known at the moment about the level of refurbishment or where it or who it will be undertaken by.

Trouble with Heating and Air Conditioning unfortunately seems to be a semi regular issue with Mk2 Air Cons so that’s unfortunately nothing new, though they can be made a little more reliable at least.

The stock is having a fairly extensive overhaul which will include replacement of the MAs which were the weak points of the air-conditioning system, often causing it to fail.

Since the majority of the Statesman stock is already at Eastleigh works, it's pretty clear that the refurb work is being undertaken by Arlington.

The vehicles at Eastleigh are for repainting, Crewe is doing the refurbishments in house.

Indeed, some impressive photos have been posted on the LSL Facebook page of coaches completely gutted almost to the bare shell with replacement wood interior wall panels fitted. A proper job. 47593 is also at Eastleigh for paint.

Wasn't 593 in intercity for a bit, I suppose they may go off piste and renumber it 47673

I very much doubt if they'll renumber it (at least not on TOPS) as that will mean that for authenticity they'd have to fit it with high phosphorus brake blocks and restrict it to 75mph which wouldn't be ideal from an operational viewpoint. They might stick 673 on the side but keep it registered as 47593 though...
