Late night EMR pathed slower than usual

Last night I got the 2306 from KGX to Luton airport parkway (was an EMR meridian, one of the rare ones to stop at the airport these days)
As far as I can tell it wasn’t in front of an imminent AirPort Express service, so does anyone know why it is timetabled to do the journey in 40 minutes instead of the usual 25?
We were on the slow lines the whole way to the airport and felt like it was going even slower than the TL’s usually do on this line

Potentially but why is this EMR service pathed on the slow lines behind a TL service and not the fast lines like EMR usually are?

Possible work on the Fast Lines? Or a way of EMR drivers retaining knowledge of the slow lines for potential diversions?

EMR don't run from King's Cross. Do you mean Saint Pancras?

Planned Engineering works always have service trains timetabled around them.

Yes this happens all the time on sections of lines with 4 tracks going to 2-track after 2200-2300 or so.
