My ticket (details below) was to Cambridge North (CMB) but I was abandonned by Great Northern at Cambridge (CBG) very late at night (0115) with no help, no taxis, and station locked up for the night. Is that considered "good enough" given that they are only a couple of miles apart and in a station group - i.e. does it fulfil their responsibility?
Also, for Delay Repay, since I never actually got to Cambridge North, I just claimed for 60-90 minutes based on arrival time at Cambridge, which was accepted and settled by Great Northern. Could I and should I have claimed for the full amount of the ticket? Do I have to physically arrive at Cambridge North station to make such a claim?
Does the fact that CBG and CMB are in a group affect this?
Background details of what happened:
Date: 4th December 2024
TOC: Great Northern
Ticket: Day travelcard Cambridge North (CMB) to London Z1-6 + Network railcard
Issue: last train from King's Cross (KGX) (at 2309) cancelled due to staff shortage
GN staff @ KGX instructed everybody to take the 2328 stopper to Stevenage then rail replacement bus to Cambridge (CBG), and staff at Cambridge will deal with onward travel.
Upon arrival at Cambridge at 0115, we find the station locked up for the night, no staff present, no taxis, nothing.
I was lucky as I live in Cambridge. The other people on the same RR bus needing to get to Ely or King's Lynn were not lucky - in fact, they were, rightfully in my opinion, very angry.
In the end, I shared a taxi most of the way home without going via CMB station itself (as it would have been a silly waste of my time and GN's money as my house is on the route between CBG and CMB - although I didn't claim for the taxi, as the people going to Ely were going to deal with that)
As I understand it, the weather and total travel time inconvenience do not fall under the train operator's responsibility. So the fact that was I home over two hours later than I would have been as a consequence of their delay, got wet and frozen after being made to wait for the RR bus in the cold, wind and rain at Stevenage for 30 minutes and having to spend 45 minutes at Cambridge trying to procure a taxi (although it was merely cold and windy by this point) makes no difference - is that correct?
