Any cheap hotels near Bristol?

I was planning on staying in Bristol city centre for 4 to 5 days but the prices are mad at the moment. Does anyone know if any cheap hotels close by with perhaps a train station close by. I’m looking for somewhere pretty quiet as well

1. Have you searched for "Bristol" in the pinned Accomodation thread?

2. Do you have dates in mind?

3. Are you needing to be in Bristol each day, or are you using it as a base for trips? Makes a difference as to what people might suggest.

1. i made the mistake of searching “Bristol Hotels” which brought up too many results. I’ve now worked out hire to search in an individual thread Anderston I’ve searched the pinned thread. Many thanks for that suggestion

ISTR that there is a handful of hotels/guest houses in the Bristol Parkway/Stoke Gifford area. May be worth having a look there?

Indeed, the Filton Premier Inn can be cheaper than the ones in the city centre and that's 10 minutes or so walk from Filton (Abbey Wood) station. Bristol city itself can be quite expensive for hotels, I'm surprised Bath area is cheaper considering that has the tourist draw of being Bath

Not sure how it compares to hotel prices, but you can book a private room in the Birstol YHA hostel for £220-£250 for 4 nights.

I've never stayed there, but I always call in for a coffee when I'm in Bristol, the harbour side location is hard to beat.

Newport Travelodge is a bit further away, but is sometimes very cheap.

However for somewhere like Newport the OP will need to weigh up the cost saving of the hotel with the cost (£19 for a SDR) of travelling from Newport to Bristol daily.

Newport is a zoo on weekends, it might be ok Sun - Thurs but avoid on Fri, Sat and holidays.

I've stayed in two YHA's, both times private rooms and I couldn't fault them, clean, cheap and excellent locations.

As I say, I haven't stayed in the Bristol YHA, but the downstairs, harbour side coffee shop is excellent.

Worth noting that theres also a new Travelodge right next to Filton Abbey Wood station.

So new that it doesnt show up on the Travelodge website's "Best Price Finder" tool

Not cheap, but generally cheaper than the central Bristol 'lodges

Hi

Have you thought of staying in Bath? This is what I do sometimes when I need to go to Bristol. The hotels are often cheaper in Bath. I have stayed at Bath Central Travelodge quite a few times in 2024. It is 15 minutes walk from Bath Bus Station/Bath train station for me (and I’m a slow walker). From Bath Bus Station you could then catch the X39 bus to Bristol (which I assume will now be £3 per single due to the increase in fare cap?). The X39 runs about every 15 minutes during the day weekdays and takes about an hour to get to Bristol. Or you could catch the train from the train station. The train is much quicker than the bus but the bus is cheaper and gets you to the city centre/near the shops (though there are also plenty of buses from Temple Meads station to the City Centre)

Please note: there is no restaurant or hot food served at Bath Central Travelodge but as it is in the City Centre there are other places where you can eat/shops to buy food.

Bath also has the YMCA and Bath YHA which both have a mixture of shared and private rooms. I’ve stayed at both before but not recently. Bath YHA is not in the city centre but there is a bus route from the YHA to the centre.

If I stay in Bristol I like staying at Premier Inn Lewins Mead which is greatly located around the corner from the bus station in the city centre but unfortunately it is often outside my budget.

+1 for Newport Travelodge from me. Close to the station, and the Costa Coffee outlet there for breakfast, and the Wetherspoons is nearby as well. My preferred location for staying in South Wales.

Glasgow Queen Street, Solihull and Ashford Central are all also decent and normally reasonably priced. For London, Cricklewood, Stratford, Croydon Central and Feltham are all pretty competent and far cheaper than the centre.

Travelodges to avoid are London City Airport and Gloucester, both staffed by idiots on my latest (and last) visits.
