Also being proposed is closure of Bicester London Road level crossing. This is without a suitable alternative for motorised vehicles being provided. There would be either a subway or ramped bridge for pedestrians and cyclists at London Road.

As such it will mean longer journeys around the existing ring road etc for motorists and bus users. The road system is regularly congested even now without the additional traffic flows that closing the level crossing will cause.
mods note - split from this thread

This is entirely in line with Oxfordshire's active travel policies.

If you take a look at Oxford, for example, Luton bollards, bus gates, and bus filters mean that it will soon be impossible to travel from any point inside the ring road to another point by car (clockwise or anti-clockwise) inside the ring road without exiting the City and going round the bypass.

Have a look at the map. Say you were a carer working in Oxford for the County Council. You have a client at Cherwell Street, then your next client is at Alma Place. At present, you can hop into your little Aygo and drive half a mile to the next client. It's been delayed, but the plan is to make the carer head back out to the Green Road Roundabout around the ring road, then back in, I'm guessing about 8-10 miles.

Bicester closure would mean a 2 mile diversion, a mere fraction.

So if Oxfordshire CC say that a 10 mile diversion is ethical and sustainable, then you'd better buy yourself a cargo bike.

It was still a relatively quiet market town in 1991, with ample independent shops along Sheep Street being a key source of our day-to-day needs. "Park up, pop in and purchase".
Bicester's population in 1991 was 17,500. It's passed 40,000 and it's projected to reach 50,000 by 2030. Quiet it will never again be.
Getting off-topic here - and same for @BlueLeanie, we can't go over the Oxford traffic filter plan in this thread. If fussed about it, start a new one..

Off-topic and on-topic.

The Oxfordshire community voted for policies that promoted active travel. Closing the level crossing ticks all the boxes for rail safety, and meets the demands of the entire Oxfordshire community who voted for a Council that promotes active travel.

Network Rail could spend £MMs on non-active travel alternatives only for the County Council to put in Luton bollards or bus gates. That would be a terrible waste of money.

No it isn't. Both paid and unpaid carers will be exempt from the traffic filters, as the OCC webpage makes abundantly clear.

Nobody wants to go to Oxford anyway, I always hate having to go there for work, at least Cambridge had got a little something about it

OT but what are "Luton bollards?" A Google search only reveals news articles relating to some bollards in Luton that were vandalised, and this thread.

Voice to text not picking up on the nuances.

Low Traffic Neighbourhood = LTN

LTN is pronounced "Luton" like the airport.
