Is there a link to anything online concerning the reinstated action?

See below:

Workers on Avanti West Coast will go on strike on New Year’s Eve after rejecting a deal designed to resolve an ongoing dispute over rest day working.

The dispute is over enhanced pay for rest day working, including voluntary overtime to cover staff absences such as those caused by vacancies, sickness, annual leave and training.

The Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) said its members working as train managers would strike on New Year’s Eve, 2 January and Sundays between 12 January and 25 May.

An RMT spokesperson said: “Our members have resoundingly rejected Avanti’s latest offers in two referendums, and sustained strike action is now the only way to focus management’s minds on reaching a negotiated settlement with the union.”

The RMT said up to 400 of its members were involved in the dispute. They voted by 83% against the suggested deal.

along with all Sundays from 12 January" - we are due to travel to Liverpool on the 09:08 from Milton Keynes, advance singles.

Too early to confirm, but you *should* be ok. I‘d expect a service to be running. So I wouldnt cancel those tickets yet.

The limiting factor in long-term industrial action is usually people's long-term commitments to pay bills that can't be renegotiated without great difficulty, like rents, mortgages, car finance and so on. If action only takes place on Sundays, or nearly always on Sundays, the staff will still be getting their full basic pay. Generally that means the above isn't a huge problem.
Don't the TMs have Sundays inside?

In North Wales this boots a four hour hole in the Sunday timetable.

This is ridiculous, should sack anyone who doesn't show up for a shift. They're just taking the Mickey now.

You can't sack people for not showing up for shifts that are not in their contract... It definitely doesn't work like that. Sunday's aren't in the working week and are voluntary.

So in your own post you make reference to the strike action from the RMT that has either been threatened or carried out at some point every year for the last 3 or 4 years. I don't really know how you can't accept that that means its very common.
The quote didn’t say "very common". The quote said "constantly", which it demonstrably has not been.

Should it? Or is the issue that the Dft doesn't want them to?
Puppet or puppeteer, it doesn‘t really matter. Avanti's executives have gone out of their way to inflame things, in a way that other TOCs have not. The point is that it's not the staff's fault that there has been so much incompetence from above.

at a time when the railway is hemorrhaging cash
Would it be haemorrhaging cash if bosses (from former ministers down to TOC management) hadn't gone out of their way to run down the service, off-lease units and antagonise the staff? I hear that a capacity boost and fare cut in Ireland has been very successful.

So once you've sacked every last guard, who is going to run the service?

Neither the 31st or 2nd are Sundays. There will be staff scheduled on those days. And it's questionable if they've given 14 days notice of the 31st.

There should be a pay freeze for all TOCs which don't implement a 7 day a week rota and hire enough staff to run this without overtime.

So people on the coal face should suffer because of a decision which is in the gift of the DfT and their Treasury overlords?

A temporary member of staff would need to learn the route knowledge, pass the rules, and PTS, fire saftey and first aid. Pass dispatch assessment and learn 2 types of traction. Emergency coupling and revenue.Depending on which depot they are at it would take a minimum of 5 months and a maximum of 8 months.
So? It's the same in every other regulated industry. A temp doctor still has to have 10 years of study/training under them.

Don't understand why in rail temp staff (managers in this case) getting paid more for shifts like this is such a big deal. It isn't a big deal in most other unionised industries.

I’d be very surpised if there was no service. Expect a reduced service.

Well the issue when we booked the tickets we couldn’t book Liverpool route due to engineering so could only get Chester service

Ah, yes. Avanti will need a few days to sort things out before publishing their plan on that day.

What I find completely bonkers is that the DfT instructed that offer be made to the staff, less than the rate that the TOC (already?) pay to their managers to cover the same job?

How was that ever going to work?

Why,other companies do

Because Avanti isn’t set up to run DOO and neither are their trains. Nor can you just dispense with hundreds of Train Managers at the drop of a hat.

Really? And why is that?

It's not a position I'd often take, but I think the RMT probably do have a point on this one. If the rest day premium was going to be paid out anyway to cover the job with a contingent why not offer it equitably to whoever is agreeable to coming in on their day off?

Rightly or wrongly there is a lot of frustration in the industry that rest day work deals are being agreed with Drivers to the tune of £600 a shift whilst daft games are played like this covering train manager turns.

Apparently some contributors to this forum believe so. Incredible.

You've totally missed the point. If a decent incentive was made to TMs to work rest days then there would be no need to pay over the odds for managers to work trains. There are nowhere near enough managers to scratch the surface. They need to employ enough staff and pay a fair overtime rate
