Female Vs Male on here

Hello, I always assume that there are lot more males than females on this site. Am I wrong on this or is it the actual case, are there many women who post on here thanks

Yes, that is the case. It tends to be something the males take interest in. I don't think I've come across any accounts that I know are possessed by females and I've been here for a couple of months now. It's just that men and women tend to have different hobbies.

I'm sure there is plenty of gender variation on this forum. I've seen people of all genders in the hobby, in the workplace and no doubt on this forum.

However you're probably right it's mostly male.

I guarantee there are others you simply don't know about, as their username doesn't give it away.

For example, I've seen people assume @trainophile is a he, but having met her (and her husband) I know she is a she... there are a lot of others I've met too, but I am not sure how many of them have divulged their gender, so it would seem unfair for me to try to produce a list! I know a lot of people want to be as anonymous as possible on here, especially if they work in/for the industry.

There are a lot more ladies working in the rail industry these days, than was historically the case (and rightly so!)

I too would likely have chosen a more anonymous username but I chose to stick with the same I’ve used since I was a nipper, when forums on the internet were born

Before I found this forum I actually assumed forums of this variety were no more, this is quite nostalgic and I’m all for it.

In my time using dating apps as a twenty-something, I've come across at least two (but no more than 3) profiles ever of women outwardly expressing an interest in trains. Never spoken to any of them though, so it does exist.

I think you may be unaware of many aspects of this site!

Yes there are a proportion of users who are interested in trains specifically, but that is only a small part of what this site is about; sites such as WNXX cater more specifically for that, while this site also covers a very broad base and has many forum sections on other subjects.

Many people work within or for suppliers to the rail industry, who may not be interested in the trains themselves!

Similarly, many people enjoy travelling without being interested in trains.

Also, some people are interested in railways or the associated systems.

There may not be similar sites that put people interested in the road network (e.g. Sabre) in the same place as car enthusiasts; they tend to go on separate forums. Indeed, we even host the most popular forum for discussing buses & coaches in the UK (there is a dedicated forum hosted by Preboards, but it's not as popular) and many of the users of that section do not venture out of it!

No I was talking about seeing female train enthusiasts on dating apps like Tinder, Hinge etc

I do know what you mean because I enjoy Sabre roads only to learn about the motorway infrastructure and abandoned routings, not interested in cars in general at all otherwise.

Indeed; it surprises me how pretty much no-one ever tries to equate an interest in roads with an interest in cars, however it is not infrequently the case that trains and railways are erroneously deemed by some people to be the same thing!
