Nowadays I live in a flat just south of Crewe station, so I can see the Shrewsbury line and the back of the LSL depot. I also hear trains passing on the WCML and Independent Lines. Plenty of traction variety. The 56s on the Sandite train have been a welcome Autumn addition.
Back in the 80s I lived in York. My bedroom overlooked the Foss Islands branch. My early morning alarm call was an 08 bringing the box vans to shunt into the Rowntrees factory at about 0630 EWD. There were also 2 trips per day to/from Foss Islands, mostly conveying sand for the local glassworks. There was also limited general traffic onto the Derwent Valley Light Railway, which ran as far as Dunnington by then.
