It’s that time of year when the Christmas shopping is beginning and lists are growing, so I think we need a thread about railway themed gifts for train enthusiasts of all ages and interests.

I’ll start with the wide selection of rail books and bookazines at https://shop.keypublishing.com/ which are all around £10-20 so fairly reasonable

Also, it would of course be wrong not to mention the legendary https://ukdepartureboards.co.uk/store/

Feel free to suggest other ideas

I'm unsure if they still do them, but the National Railway Museum in York used to sell "guard's gift sets" containing an engraved whistle, pocket watch and badge, in either GWR or LNER(?) if I recall correctly.

I was gifted the GWR one years ago - a lovely little set with a practical use too as I now the whistle as a guard (albeit for a different TOC).

The London Transport Museum Shop has some great stuff for those who like going underground. The moquette socks are part of my daily wardrobe and they have exclusive 00 gauge models too - their preserved 4TC set is in stock and the Florence Nightingale carriage is on pre-order.

Shed No 2 offers a menagerie of moquette products. I have a few cushions of theirs - including Gatwick Express of course - to brighten up my drab student pad.

GWR have a small shop that offers GWR-branded merchandise (what a shock) including Pullman Coasters, IET/387 socks, and a pricey HST tree ornament.

The Guild of Railway artists have an online shop that offers high quality prints that are mostly paintings of British railways throughout the eras, but there's some international railways and tramways too.

My dear old late mum used to buy me obscure railway books for Christmas, like stuff on tampers, waggons, departmental and industrial stuff.
My mum also once sent a gift voucher for myself and Mrs Trackman for a heritage railway day out, and you could choose which one as well - dont know if this is still a thing.
Also she once did a watercolour of a Deltic on a christmas card for me- she said do you know what it is? I said yes, it's a deltic because of the windows, which one I said? She replied, 55 001 St. Paddy! - Please remember my mum wasn't a crank by any means, they studied the Deltic in an Art class! Funnily enough she took up painting again towards the end of her life.

I am a train enthusiast, but for my christmas I would welcome any additions to my collection of Marvel and DC comics (US and UK issues to the end of december 1979 which is when I collected them as a youth) - one of my sons asked me to give him a list of comics that I needed . . . he has no idea how many thousands i haven't got(!)

Book Tokens or an Amazon gift card. That way you can choose the books you want. When I was young my relatives used to buy me railway books that were of little interest. The WHS Railways of the World or M&S Big Book of Trains etc did nothing for me. I recently treated myself to an early Xmas present which was a book about LSWR signalling. It wasn’t cheap but well worth it and any money received at Xmas will be offset against it.

But many people on the Autism spectrum will do, and it's not exactly a secret that trains appeal to people on the spectrum.
