Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone knows/ can predict whether New Year's Eve will see widespread cancellations due to crew shortages, or if it will be similar to a normal weekday. Last year there were major issues, but that was due to NYE falling on a Sunday, so the Sunday roster issues at Northern and other TOCs created major problems. NYE is on a Tuesday this year- will rostering be done as it was a normal Tuesday and as such be usual weekday cancellations, or is it done through volunteers and therefore likely to see a lack of staff.

Thanks in advance.

Can't speak for every operator but where I work it's a normal working day.

Should this thread be moved to "Allocations, Diagrams and Timetables?"

I expect Northern will come up with their usual lame excuses after mid-afternoon.

Just a normal day at Greater Anglia. Most if not all services expected to run as booked.

Some operators actually run additional late night services on NYE evening / early NYD morning to get people to and from London for the NYE celebrations. As these are extra services which fall outside of the usual rostering agreements, volunteers are sought to crew these additional trains.
