On any of the transpennine routes if there is a large blockade O/H line equipment should be put in after a few years it will all join up. Hope valley comes to mind!
And who is going to pay for the necessary site planning procuremeet of the foundations and structures?as this isn’t maintenance Related so not funded by NRs 5 year maintenance budget and is classed as Capital improvement ?

Agreed. However there is a case for making NR possession strategy much more efficient with longer blocks with more work achieved in them in my eyes.

Which was what was suggested ( I think pre-Covid) in the PWI lecture about the subject. Blockade strategy to be used.

Oh yeah it is very likely being done for something this big but I think it should apply everywhere. Every route (by that I mean section of train line) should have a possession strategy for work required to ensure it's as efficient as possible and fits in with adjacent routes. However, that is a soap box for another time.

The recent TRU 5 day blockades have shown how much work can be achieved in a short time.

Re Hudds station there's a feature in Huddesfield Hub re progress reporting the roof glazing etc has been removed and the trusses shot blasted. Completion due 2027.
See https://huddersfieldhub.co.uk/insid...p-as-countdown-begins-to-two-30-day-closures/

That article is the first time I have seen possible timescales quoted for works west of Huddersfield;

"As part of the wider scheme, Deighton and Mirfield stations are being re-modelled and Ravensthorpe will have a brand new station slightly nearer to Mirfield, which could open in 2028.

At the other side of Huddersfield, plans for new stations at Slaithwaite and Marsden remain some way off and it could be the end of the decade before works start.".

There was talk of resignalling/remodelling in the Diggle Junction area has there been any progress on that?

But because of poor weather during winter but primarily because schools and universities/colleges are out July/August, going forward those will be the best months to have longer blockades.

A Small but momentous occasion at Victoria now with class 800s finally able to arrive and depart the station purely on a electric on booked work.

I cant find the original post but the power change over point is now at Clayton Bridge with trains changing on the move

APCO control balises are installed at Millstream Lane in the Down direction and Littlemoss Rd in the Up direction.

Booked work via Ashton. Manual changeover remains for frequent TRU diversions via Rochdale.

No problem. It's nice to now see DfT getting return on their multimillion £ investment, comprising
  • 1tph TPE using half the installed length of OLE
  • 1tph Northern frequently cancelled, often DMU substituted, and only currently operating 6 days per week.
As stated above, at least for the next fortnight (until TT change), the TPE 802 will remain on electric for its 15 minute dwell, rather polluting the whole station.

To be slightly fairer, only 13 of 19 Northern Stalybridge departures are booked 769, meaning (if we assume even hourly frequency, which it's not) it's 0.68tph
services booked 769 said:
06:52, 07:52, 09:52, 10:52, 11:52, 12:52, 13:52, 15:52, 17:52, 18:52, 19:52, 20:52 and 21:20
services booked 15x said:
06:19, 8:25, 14:52, 16:52, 22:29, and 23:18

Presumably they accelerate up the bank a bit quicker too.

A couple of the trains Ive looked at have arrived at Stalybridge about 3 mins early so it must be making a little difference at least. 1P33 the 1645 of Vic is about to do the same

So fast up Miles Platting bank that RTT timings are all showing 1 - 1¼ minute early departures.

I imagine miles platting makes a huge difference. You can hear the diesel engines working hard the whole way up. 769 difference will be interesting.

This should have been the solution from the outset to get the project completed a lot quicker and at less cost.

There's more pictures on Richard Stenhouse's Flickr site showing progress on Baker Viaduct at Ravensthorpe with lots of piling done and concrete piers starting to appear.
Sorry don't know how to link.

It does seem a little odd that all that work is going on at Healy Mills to produce temporary siding space when the mainline have such a speed restriction on them. I wonder if the mainlines will eventually be routed on these (or some) of these sidings.

The route is 60 mph all the way from Thornhill Jn to outside Wakefield Kirkgate, so there's no point spending money realigning Healey Mills unless there's significant work planned on the rest.

I had been labouring under the impression of a slow and bouncy run on the mainlines around the yard - but I hadn't been on it for years. When were they fixed?

At the risk of pedantry, the tea rooms are being rotated by 180 degrees, so a half turn rather than right angles.

Noted whilst driving from Leeds to York and return this morning that they’ve put 65 electrification stantions up between Church Fenton and Huddleston Hall (about halfway to Micklefield)

Network rail TPU update on Hudds station mentioned shot blasting/ needle gunning of steelworks almost finished, tea rooms dismantled and stored to be reconstructed
as well as mention of the multistory portacabin for 450 people (I hope there not all paper shufflers).
See https://www.networkrailmediacentre....d-station-in-the-midst-of-generational-change.

Good to see Huddersfield being cracked on with, suspect as they move from making fit what's there to major rework we might see some faster progress.

They won't all be paper shufflers generally will not be in site offices. Majority will be hybrid site/office with some office only based roles where there is value on being face to face with site people to make sure communication is easy and issues can be dealt with promptly.
