Or, 'I've gone a bit mad trying to find a new spotting book'.

Evening all.

I'm hoping someone on here might be able to help me - it's a bit of a long shot, though. I've got a green, leather-effect cover, A6 spotting book which I use to record the trains I've seen - it's from WHSmith originally (about seven or eight years ago, I bought it - and still not filled it in (!) but expecting to finally do so soon). It's designed for spotters, with tables on each page for date, time, place, number, and comments (though it's not specifically for trainspotters and from what I remember, in the shop it was just marked as 'Spotting Book' or 'Spotter's Book'). It's incredibly useful but I can't seem to find one online to buy anywhere! I've got no clue how old it might be, and how long it might've been sat on that shop shelf - the Tube map at the back is from 2006 I believe. If that's of any use in identifying it!

I could just get a normal notebook or something like that, but I'd like to try and get another in this theme if possible. I don't suppose anyone on here would know of a shop selling something similar? Everywhere I've looked online has drawn a blank unfortunately. I can't get photos of the book just now either unfortunately but I've given as much detail as possible.

Thanks very much in advance for any help in this. It's an odd one I know.

-Peter :)

Try a Google images search for "train spotting logbook" and there's several results that might suit what you're looking for. :)

I had a Quick Look over at eBay with the search “spotting notebook” . If you’ve got the time, there are 235 offerings for you to sift through! I do hope this helps a bit?
I’m just back spotting (after an absence of just over 40 years!). After quite a bit of indecision I decided to buy a Moleskine notebook just with lined paper, it’s going well so far! All the best with your search!

Some of the preservation groups offer notebooks as part of their sales items (for example: https://www.125group.org.uk/product/intercity-125-notebook-and-pen/)

Gives you the notebook and also helps the preservation efforts of whichever group you buy from.
Thanks for the responses chaps - much appreciated. Ideally I'd like to find a second WHSmith green spotting book to match the one I've already got, but it looks like they're not made anymore (which isn't surprising really). I'll have a look at the logbook suggestions shared - at the moment I'm thinking of doing something similar to your system @Cymroglan by just getting some A6 notebooks from Staples and drawing the tables I want on each page. More time-consuming, perhaps, but I don't mind.

Thanks again!

-Peter
