Ehen we reached Stewartby there was a queue of sixth formers easily 100m long, extending along the road, to board the 150, and they all seemed to get on pretty efficiently as we didn't lose any time. They were well enough behaved, but it made me wonder what on earth they'd do during cancellations or the recent lack of service!

Presumably they'd have to make do with the 68 bus.

This could be a great deal for season tickets if you travel from Ayr as a Maybole Season to Glasgow for example is valid to use between Ayr and Glasgow! Also, given it's 2 for one with break of journey allowed. You could get any ticket from Maybole to anywhere in Scotland and use it from anywhere enroute. So this also means 2-for-1 for say Glasgow-Inverness if you pay from Maybole, so you can get two off peak returns for £88.90 from Maybole compared with 2 off peak returns from Glasgow to Inverness for £143, a £54.10 saving.

Thanks for sharing! I had a look at the offer, but it seems the Winter Sale discount doesn’t stack with the 1/3 Railcard discount. A bit of a shame, as that would have made for an even better deal!

That's how it is normally with CS sales. One gets the impression they'd rather not accept Railcards at all if they had the option.

That's basically how it already is if you're not travelling alone...

I can never seem to find any Railcard discounted tickets if I search for one berth with two 16-25 Railcard holders, for example. Very frustrating if I wanted to do a weekend away with someone!

I don't quite understand the reasoning behind it, considering it just means you could instead book two individual cabins for just £10 more most of the time, and that means you're just taking away a decent amount of revenue from the sleeper which is already rather financially unviable.

Caledonian Sleeper only offer Railcard discounts on seats and Solo rooms, not Double rooms (except for Disabled Railcards).

They burn through their capital with no care in the world.

Commission on tickets is 5% before any fees already, so it's completely unsustainable, but it gets people using their app, and hence the ability to get even more funding if they wanted to from other investors.

The TOCs routinely offer 10% off (see LNER for example, with Perks, Airtime, Amex etc. offers). That's taxpayer-funded though, unlike any offers made by third party retailers (such as Uber), which are shareholder or profit-funded. The question really is: how does the taxpayer afford to do this? And is the taxpayer even aware?

What surprises me is that an effective 10% discount isn't enough of an incentive for many people to make the switch to buying their tickets from Uber.

I don't care for Uber as a company but I'm happy to take advantage of their investors' money by saving on my rail tickets while it lasts.

It's worked with me. I bought some eVouchers the other week at 10% and I'll buy some more this week at 12%.

As someone who isn't eligible for a railcard, any discount that takes the edge off the price of rail tickets is welcome.
