Reported on Rail Scene facebook this morning that 47714 has been moved to Doncaster West Yard in readiness for its departure to Wensleydale on Monday

Schedules are currently showing for Hanson & Hall 50008 as 1000 0D50 Knottingley TMD to Doncaster West Yard, 1148 0N47 to Northallerton Reversing Line with the 47 then the 50 returning to Knottingley as 1535 0D51

They got 714 up and running within 48 hours of it arriving. Obviously despite languishing for a good time at Doncaster, it is in decent internal condition, if not external.

I wouldn't entirely describe it as languishing, it was used as an ETH provider at Wabtec so would have been started and ran fairly regularly. But good work nonetheless and it's great to see another /7 saved. I'm also pleased that they own this one outright, after 715 where Wensleydale put in all the work to get it running again, painted it in NSE, then not long after HNRC took it back in house and now it provides ETH at Worksop.

When? I hope with the diesel running day coming up at the end of this month they'll run it then, (hopefully with 37250 as back up!), but this is very much enthusiast wibble, not least due to the lack of ETH on 37250!

They gave it a decent wash which has definitely tidied it up a fair bit. Obv still needs a repaint but they are planning that anyway.

Thanks, I did belatedly see a picture of it looking less bad than normal and it was a definite improvement.

I’m intrigued to see what livery it gets in future.

To be fair, it doesn’t really need anything for the Polar Express - the diesel is at the Leyburn end of the train and beyond the end of the platform when passengers board at Leeming, whilst the kettle is in the platform and very visible (because of the level crossing on Leases Road the loco at the Leeming end is in the platform when the train stops). I’d say 99.9% of passengers don’t see the diesel

Not everyone has the deference to steam engines that fans of such locomotives seem to believe they should. It’s nothing new and hardly offensive.

I'd say the chances are zero. In the same way Brush Type 4/47 fans don't like the terms 'Duff' and 'Spoon' but they will stick forevermore
