Could 2G20 defy the odds and produce 003?

Technically it's formed by the one that got cancelled unless there's a spare 777 to replace it.

Edit: looking back at pics 777 028 was also in the sidings so probably more likely this has replaced 006 unfortunately

Apologies if I'm adding 2+2 and getting 5 but a guard told me yesterday that the 507s aren't allowed to run in service beyond Sunday
Take with a pinch of salt but that may be what @Tynwald was referring to?
I've been told by a VERY authorative source that the lease expires at the end of December.

There has just been an announcement onboard;

Alstom are putting in a huge event at Litchurch lane next summer to mark 200 years since the opening of the Stockton and Darlington…

507001 is going to be kept at Litchurch lane from withdrawal until the end of the event, and will be kept warm and operational on their third rail test track!

That’s fantastic! Safe to say everyone’s going to be very pleased that 507001 will be saved :)

Big thank you to all the Merseyrail staff that made The Sefton Sparkler tour happen, most enjoyable day.

An enjoyable day overall. I love the Northern Lines so the route was great and lots of merchandise swag was on offer and bagged. It's just a shame some so-called enthusiasts can't behave themselves.

The fantastic news about 507001 is the icing on the cake. Speaking of which, the unit did them proud and ran superbly today; the resistor fans were loud at both ends but it mattered not. The 507 society are doing some sterling work so far.

001 did the tour proud even though it was particularly noisy at times! Got worried when I overheard the platform staff at Liverpool Central saying they had botched it together and it didn't sound right!

Lovely to hear also that the unit will get a bit more use at Alstom's 200 celebration and great job to the 507 group for securing this!

Does anyone have a record of what track was covered in Kirkdale today on the Sefton Sparkler? I know the first siding was 25 road but I am struggling to work out what the second siding was.

Seems like Ormskirk line is running an 8 car as the 14:28 from Central is displayed as an 8 car service. Wondering whether they are suitable to run on Hunts Cross lines now.

Not too sure about this but there is a service on the Southport - Liverpool Centrals that hasn't been showing the amount of coaches it is formed off. This has been happening at all stations. I doubt its a 507 but there is a possibility

Just seen a post which is now locked and got me thinking can a 313 work with a 507 ? (just a possibility of the two blue/Grey units working together) ?

Surely you mean Class 455?
313201 is preserved in BR blue, it lives at Eastleigh works.

As far as I know they can't work together - if I remember rightly the 313/1s and 508/2s were modified so that they could work together for rescue/empty stock moves/getting to a non-DC depot only but not for passenger use.

Whether a 313/2 could be used to rescue a completely dead 507 (or vice versa) I have no idea, but I don't think electrical wise they're compatible.

EDIT - Above should read 508/3 not 508/2!

The depot in question was Willesden Depot - the actual depot is AC-only despite being accessed from the DC lines.

I’m fairly certain silver link used to run their 508/3s in multi with their 313s for ECS workings at least.

With an indication on the MerseyRailways 2.0 Facebook group, a pair of 507s may appear tomorrow.
I presume these two out on the peak services on the Southport line given the Class 777 availability.

I’ve heard reference to Southport now having a “peak diagram” which if 507s are in the sidings, they can appear on, but I can’t quite understand where this diagram comes from or when it is, because there aren’t any 8 car 777s.

Last week, the 6 Car 507 featured on the diagram which has several planned cancellations. This is the diagram which involves 2S12, then starts again with the 16:03 (2G42) out of Southport.
