Respectfully: Penshurst with an "s" is in Kent, near Tonbridge / Tunbridge Wells. The East Sussex settlement, a little way west of Battle: is Penhurst. Buried in the churchyard of Penhurst's church of St. Michael the Archangel; is the actor Harry H. Corbett (1925 -- 82), most greatly renowned for his role as "Young Steptoe" in the television comedy series. Corbett, an indefatigable worker at his craft, appeared in pantomime at the Churchill Theatre, Bromley, Greater London: shortly after leaving hospital following on from a heart attack which he suffered in 1979.

Sorry to say that the confusion that has affected me caused by whatever is causing my current sick condition since last Friday evening (might be bronchitis from a reading of the symptoms on the NHS website) made the posting that I made and then you responded to wrong on both counts, so I have struck-through that posting.

@Xenophon PCDGS : long-ago administrative divisions are your speciality here -- but I have come, on Wiki, upon something beautifully crazy in that line. A millennium-odd ago, Kent was divided into administrative regions called "Lathes" (compare the same-role, alarming-sounding, "Rapes" of Sussex). The Lathe of Aylesford comprised thirteen Hundreds; plus something called the Lowey of Tonbridge (obviously, in Kent). These batty names and titles -- one cannot but think, "out of Monty Python by Lewis Carroll".

US President John F. Kennedy spent a night in September 1963 -- a couple of months before his assassination -- in the parish of the above-bolded, at the home of British former Prime Minister Harold Macmillan. Earlier in 1963, on a brief but covering-much visit to the Republic of Ireland: JFK visited his ancestral-roots home in Dunganstown, near Glenmore, Co. Kilkenny (some miles north-east of Waterford -- counties and their boundaries are messy hereabouts).

On the Valentia Harbour branch ! (Sorry -- couldn't resist.) In the later 19th century -- another place where bad-and-acrimonious stuff went on, concerning landlords / their agents / tenants: was Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo -- which we've had previously in this game -- involving Mr. Boycott, whose name entered the English language thanks to the said doings.

Truro Cathedral was designed by noted nineteenth century architect John Loughborough Pearson. Amongst many other churches, he also designed St Matthew's at Landscove, Devon.

Nothing seems to be find-out-able about the above Landscove -- presumably the tiny settlement near Buckfastleigh; but there is a Landscove Holiday Park (name-likeness coincidental?) near Brixham, Devon.

Long resident in the above-bolded settlement, was the schoolmaster / musician / songwriter John (Jack) Gair Robson (1885 -- 1957). One of his songs praises the beauties of the settlement's eponymous Bay. Robson was born in Annitsford, North Tyneside -- some five miles west of the above-bolded.
