Station Control Room - Liverpool Street

I was catching a train on the Elizabeth Line from Liverpool Street last Sunday and just missed a train on the Reading branch, so were sat for about half an hour waiting, and was interested that the "This is an update from the station control room..." messages were broadcast from the Moorgate control room rather than Liverpool Street.

i was wondering if this was normal, and whether both Underground station control rooms can broadcast to the Elizabeth Line platforms, or just Moorgate. It was also odd hearing that message, as I don't think I've ever heard that on the Elizabeth Line before.

Just Moorgate, I believe - operationally, the Elizabeth Line at Liverpool Street is part of Moorgate Tube, not Liverpool Street Tube.

Thanks. Is there a reason for that, as (after having not been in London for ages and not normally using Liverpool Street, I've been there quite a lot), I connected from Moorgate to Liverpool Street Elizabeth Line and it seemed to be a long walk, compared to the walk from the gateline at Liverpool Street to the Elizbeth Line platforms.

It's a VERY long walk from Liverpool Street main line to the low level Elizabeth line platforms.

It isn't really, most of the distance is on escalators. I actually think it's one of the shorter walks on the EL stations.

As mentioned above, Liverpool St Elizabeth line platforms are run under Moorgate LU.

In the case that Moorgate is evacuated due to a fire alert, the Elizabeth Line skips Liverpool Street while the Circle, Central, H&C and Met still stop at Liverpool Street Lu but skip Moorgate LU.

The Elizabeth Line part of the station really should’ve been called Liverpool St-Moorgate or something but that’s a story for another time.

Moorgate LU always seemed to me much closer!

Just how it was structually built and connected - most of the station footprint overlaps with Moorgate I believe.

Obviously the walk is highly dependent on which end of the train you leave from.

The name was likely kept as Liverpool Street due to that being the GEML terminus and precursor TfL Rail being the metro operator for the route and so to keep familarity and consistency as well as being a "bigger" name.

Euston-St. Pancras is what the proposed CR2 station would be called, however I suppose they are both just as significant as one another, whereas if they had to pick between Moorgate and Liv St., the latter is far more significant in terms of services. But as you say, this is one for another time!
