Seeing as there doesn't seem to already be a thread for this kind of discussion, I'll be the one to raise it.
What is the newest preserved bus you can think of? The one off the top of my head is former Nottingham City Transport 676, an 05-plate Scania Omnidekka, or perhaps one of the Wright Streetcar RTVS.

Former Arriva The Shires Scania 3606 just trumps that being a "Britvic" (55 reg) but can't think offhand of any others.

The Bromley Bus Preservation Group have a number of low floor buses in preservation, many with 04/54 plates. However, there is also:

Go South Coast 1851 (SN56 AWX), the unique Volvo B7TL Enviro 400, new to Solent Blue Line as their 758
Arriva ENL1 LJ07ECW, an Enviro 200
Metroline TE847 LK57AYC, an Enviro 400
Travel London LJ56VSZ, an Enviro 400
Arriva LJ08CVS, an Enviro 400

They also have or had a left hand drive New Flyer which was the US version of the Enviro 200, but not sure when it was registered. It was built in 2013. They also had an Enviro 500 protoype, whic was sold to Ensignbus as their EB68 opentopper. Not sure when it was built.

Former Lothian Dennis Dart SPD 61 (SK52OJE) and ex-First Volvo Olympian 1308 (R308LKS) are both resident at the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum.

Not quite sure why this discussion has become so random. I checked the "bible" the PSV Circle Preserved Buses 2024 edition and it gives LC 63 CXY and SV 64 BRX as the newest with 13 and 61 regs slighhtly older preserved

Okay, a 64-plate! That'll be hard to beat!

I wonder why they are preserved or whether there's a chance they will return to front line service and therefore lose their honor.

Both are non-diesel buses whose technology is now redundant.

SV64BRX is a Van Hool A330 hydrogen powered tri-axle single decker now a static exhibit at the Alford Transport Collection. There was 10 of these operated between First and Stagecoach but all were taken out of use in 2020.

LC63CXY is a BYD K9E integral electric single decker now a static exhibit at the London Bus Museum at Brooklands. It was one of two operated on the now ceased Red Arrow 507/521 routes with Go Ahead London, which were amongst, if not the first, battery electric buses in the UK.

Trentbarton used four 12-plate Optare Solo EVs on the former Centrelink free bus in Nottingham city centre. Two of them, YJ12 GVF/G, were still extant as of this February.

Correct me if I'm wrong but 69154 never operated into Wigan?

Strathtay Buses in Preservation's Optare Solo M880 260 - YJ55 BHW and Volvo B7TL East Lancs Vyking 716 - SP05 FKK are decently new from 2005. Both ex Strathtay and Stagecoach East Scotland.

There's a preserved Van Hool coach, SF13 FMO, that was a high-spec Stagecoach Gold sleeper coach.

Actually, I find that it is quite disconcerting when you turn up to a transport museum and find that one of the prize exhibits is a variety of bus that you remember when they first entered service.

That's life, I guess!

I know of a guy who owns a pair of Optare Solos, an 03-plate and a 54-plate.

If it hasn't happened already, when will (what I would class as the modern era) of electirc/hybrid buses start entering the preservation scene I wonder. If indeed it ever happens?

Are these things going to be living the traditional life cycle - major operator, perhaps a second operator, maybe even a third, then finally a small independent on schools and private hire work. Or are we a long way off from that being a reality, given the challenges of skills and infrastructure at the bottom end?

Will preservationists even have the necessary skills and infrastructure, or even access to the necessary parts, to ensure the earliest examples of this first generation of squadron service electric buses, can be saved? Or are they too valuable, if only from a recycling perspective?

Is an out of warranty privately owned electric bus even insurable? Would you risk storing it next to your prized Guy Arab or Leyland Olympian?

Hopefully I'm just out of touch and things are well in hand. Not that I can honestly say I'm remotely enthused by the prospect of going to see, much less ride on, a preserved E400H, a type which Stagecoach started operating in anger as long ago as 2011. Where are they now, if not still with their first owner?

(rather than being maudlin or distrubed, I was actually strangely excited to get the chance see the earliest ancestor of the Enviro400 diesel, brand new off the line, enter service on my local routes as a schoolkid, finally be restored and take pride of place at a major regional transport/vehicle show)

It's just where the group is based? They have buses that have never operated in the north west, let alone Wigan.

As for 69154, it was branded and allocated to the 582, so spent a considerable amount of time in Wigan borough.

Sometimes, when I go to museums and the like, I play a little game with myself and the friends I am with on the visit.
A point for "Got one of those" - double if 'mine' is exactly the same item and only a half if "somewhat similar" ...

Looking at workshop tools and domestic items, mainly.

I visited the Coventry Transport Museum last month and found a silver Peugeot 206 SW. I know someone who drives one of those!

I believe the newest one is one of the prototype Tri axle ADL Enviro200XLBs, I'm not sure how old it is because it's never been registered in the UK although I believe there are intentions to do so.

I’m only interested in the stuff I remember from when I was younger, and latterly stuff I’ve driven in the day job that has since been withdrawn.

Stuff that is older than my childhood, and isn’t part of my memories doesn’t interest me.

A colleague of mine has a preserved stagecoach 2006 Dart.

Never knew about that tour! Odd choice of bus for a tour
Apparently, it's a 'Luxurious Sightseeing Experience'.

Not my photo: picture of a double decker coach in preservation in the colours of a sightseeing tour.
