West Midlands Senior Bus Pass Validity.

A holder of a WM senior bus pass gets free rail travel within the WM area, subject to time restrictions, ( for the moment anyway).
If you wish to travel further afield you only have to pay from the last station in the W M area, my question is, does the train have to stop at that station as per normal split ticketing?
I am specifically looking at BHM to Oxford, you only need to pay from Coventry, problem is not all the trains stop there, do I have to get one that does stop there?

You would have to get one that passes through Coventry. As there isn’t a 'boundary' ticket you need to choose to travel through either Coventry or Dorridge and have an appropriate ticket. Or tickets, splitting at Leamington.

When you have a season ticket, ranger, rover, zonal ticket, or indeed a concessionary pass such as this, the default rule under the National Rail Conditions of Travel (NRCoT) is that you can use it in combination with another ticket, without needing to stop at the station where you change from your pass to your additional ticket.

This default right to conduct a "non-stop" split can be excluded by the specific terms and conditions of the ticket/pass - in which case you'd have to stop at the station where you change from one ticket to the next.

But the conditions of your West Midlands pass make no mention of any such restrictions (they are fairly rare), so you are fine to conduct non-stop splits.

The last station where your pass is valid when travelling towards Oxford is either Coventry or Dorridge, depending on the route the train takes. Unfortunately, if you take a train that goes via Dorridge, there is little point in splitting there. The fares from Dorridge to Oxford are the same as those from Birmingham to Oxford.

So the split is possible, but only worthwhile if you travel via Coventry.
