Metrolink City as a ticketing destination

Does anyone know what "Metrolink City" is as a ticketing destination? The EC website has:

Huddersfield-Manchester Stns AR £16.00
Huddersfield-Metrolink City AR £17.20
Huddersfield-Manchester Central Zone: no fares found

I know that only tickets from Greater Manchester stations are issued to CTRZ, so what's "Metrolink City"? Is it an error?

I'm looking to go to St Peter's Square. Are through tickets from outside GM to named Central zone stations available, like they are to tram stops outside the central zone?

Metrolink City is basically the equivalent of the CTLZ tickets in the GMPTE/TfGM/SELNEC/delete as appropriate area.

If you buy a ticket from any station in the Greater Manchester ticketing area to Manchester it is automatically issued to "MANCHESTER CTLZ" and gives you free travel on the Metrolink City Zone bounded by Piccadilly, Victoria and Deansgate-Castlefield.

If you buy a ticket to Manchester from outside the Greater Manchester ticketing area it is issued to MANCHESTER STNS and does not include tram travel. You can however purchase a ticket which includes tram travel. METROLINK CITY is the destination for the City Zone as detailed above. Basically, a ticket from Huddersfield to Metrolink City is the same as Huddersfield to Manchester Ctlz, but has a different name as it is not issued from inside the Manchester ticketing area.

Outside of the City Zone, if you are buying tickets inside the Manchester area you can buy a ticket to a tram stop but they are in groups, so you get a ticket which says From WIGAN STNS To METROLINK ZONE A (which covers a handful of stations). From outside the Manchester area, tickets to tram stops outside the City Zone are issued to each tram stop individually by name, i.e. From HUDDERSFIELD to SALE MTLK
