Hi all, new to this. I purchased an advanced single return ticket on Trainline app. The tickets are split as it was cheaper. I've now noticed I put in the wrong departure/outbound day. Should be going on 4th November, ticket booked for 5th. I know I can change the day but its £35 difference plus £40 admin fee. (E ticket). Which more than doubles the price. My fault I know. My question is am I able to purchase a new ticket for 4th and just not use the outbound but still use the return?

Yes. Advance tickets are singles and stand alone.

Even with a regular return ticket you can use the return only, you just can't then go on to use the outward after the return.

Advance tickets are single tickets; if you buy a return journey you actually buy two unconnected single tickets. So you can ditch the outbound and still use the return, yes.

To clarify, I think you have you booked a return journey, but Trainline has sold this as a combination of Advance single tickets? (There is no such thing as an Advance return, so just checking there aren't any actual return tickets in there). If this is the case, then yes, you can purchase new tickets for the correct date and simply discard any tickets for the wrong date, you are not obliged to use them. The tickets for the return leg will still be valid.

I am surprised Trainline are charging so much! We only charge one £10 for changes to any number of tickets in one transaction (also, I suspect Trainline charged you a booking fee; we don't charge a booking fee)

If you shop around, you might find a ticket office who is prepared to do it for a lower price.

The problem here is that some retailers charge a (£5 or £10 fee, depending on circumstances) per ticket to change, while others charge one fee for the entire transaction (even if there are multiple passengers and/or multiple tickets per passenger).

And others don't charge anything at all. When buying Advance tickets I am very careful to use retailers where I know changes won't cost me more than the fare difference.

Hi, yes booked a return journey. As the tickets are split I have 4 separate advance single tickets. Thank you. Really appreciated

Thank you. All the different tickets and conditions can get confusing.
