When buying on the CityLink website for a one way trip for 2 between Glasgow and Edinburgh, it costs £19.80 for two singles, presumably valid all day

When buying the same trip on the megabus website, it costs £4.30pp, are those tickets fixed to that specific coach?

Just because you have tickets in advance doesn’t mean you’ll get on! I routinely board at the Bus Station as it can fill up and it sails by Princes St and Haymarket. Since you’ll be going the other way, it’ll be less of an issue - but I have to agree the fare is mind numbing!

Sadly, the Murrayfield stop is going to be by far the most convenient for us, but there is a big warning on Megabus' order summary page about the fact that they are only valid between bus stations. No savings for us.

Best value for money is buying your ticket onboard and getting the £10 return or if using Megabus you can still get a good discount about an hour before departure

I tend to find Megabus tickets are not available for departures within a few hours of booking, if they are not much if any saving over buying it on the bus. The £10 ticket is the best one and their is a period return too.

That policy has changed. You're allowed to use your Megabus ticket one hour either side of your booked departure as long as space is available.

Is that written anywhere public or is it just drivers who are told, recognising that it's a frequent route that can have delays? The Megabus site doesn't seem to say it.

Well I drive on the Citylink network and it was a Citylink/Megabus official notice posted to each operator that this was the case. Remember that not every service is hourly or better so they won't necessarily publish it for public viewing.
