Delay Repay - two delays on one ticket

I'd be grateful for advice on delay claim validity when two delays are incurred on one ticket.

I held an A to C anytime single and made a permitted break of journey at station B.
Delay was 17 minutes and claim is being processed. No reason to think it won't be approved.

After a 90 minute stop in town B, I continued to station D, using the remaining validity to station C and a day ranger for the C to D section.
Delay repay has been refused initially due to duplicate ticket number and on appeal (with full details) for reason duplicate journey, saying they're still processing the A to C claim.
Delay was more than one hour for the second journey due to a cancellation.

Perhaps I have complicated things by submitting both claims at the same time.

Are both claims valid in this scenario?

I would say no. The second claim will be valid and as it would be paid on the full value of the tickets, it would mean that it effectively includes the value of the first claim. I have made claims for delays before or after a break of journey and they have been paid on the price of tickets for the full journey - based on this I would see a lesser delay on the 'other' side of the break as being included in the greater claim.

Yes, that makes sense.

With hindsight, I should have just claimed for the second journey which had a longer delay and a more expensive ticket combination.

Looks like I'll get a smaller payout and have the second journey denied.

You have got grounds to appeal if that's denied, but I would expect a claim to be reduced by the value of the first one.

After a lot of emails I achieved a good result with a decent payment for the 1 hour + delay
