after work yesterday I got dropped at tipton train station instead of coseely a usual. The two stations are one after the other. I was so in auto mode that I bought the ticket from coseley to wolves instead of tipton to wolves without thinking since that is what I do every week if i dont get a lift home. I got to wolves station showed my ticket and they stopped me. Apparently there was work at coseley so you can't access platform 2 therefore there was no way I could have travelled from coseley and they took my credentials for fare evasion. It was literally a genuine mistake.

Hi.

Did the person who stopped you give you any paperwork or indicate what would happen next?

Looking at your previous thread, you were also stopped last year but your thread stops part way through the case. Perhaps you could tell us how this turned out for you, please?

Last year I got fined 135 pounds in the end for using the wrong railcard. I paid the fine and it was resolved. Yesterday they just took my credentials saying they would need to report the incident

I'm not one of the experts here but I would say that if you reached an out of court settlement[?] with them last time you may have to work harder to resolve things this time. Only a court can fine you.

One of the things that rail companies look for is to see if being stopped the first time has taught you anything about fare evasding and if they check back to last year, they may start to wonder. In your place I would be making sure I paid the right fare from now on because you're on their radar now.

The experts should be around later to offer more advice.

Yeah it was an out of court settlement last year. I was literally in auto mode yesterday, I always get dropped at coseley and get the train from there. I used to travel to and from tipton, but that hasnt been the case for more than a year since coseley is slightly closer to work. The apps saves your favourite route as well so i didnt even look, it was so natural for me to get that train ticket. The difference in price between the two is like 1 pound as well.

I did ask earlier if you had any paperwork from being stopped two days ago or were told what would happen next?

They asked me questions, wrote stuff down on a tablet and gave me a piece of paper to show at the gate so I could be let out of the station. All they said was they had to report the incident as I explained it to them.

Unfortunately I suspect you have got yourself back in the situation you have faced before - ie seeking to obtain an out of court settlement for not having a valid ticket - even if it was genuine mistake and only for a very low fare for 1 stop on the line. When they contact them you are going to have to convince them of that being a one of mistake in your response.

You need to wait to hear from them now of course.

If there is something you can do to prevent this happening again I would do it (eg use a ticket buying app / site that does not default back to the same stations as last time if possible / if there is such a thing) - something you can say to them you have actively done to help ensure you always have a valid ticket.

Yeah I'm gonna explain the situation. There was no bad intention on my side whatsoever. I know that this being a second time doesn't look good but since my first time I've always had the correct ticket and railcard with me.
