Is there going to be a 16th Rail Atlas?

It seems that quite a few people yellow-pen in their atlas the lines that they yellow-pen.

Which of course is why covering new track is referred to as yellow-penning.

(See also red-penning.)

I recently printed out an all lines route map on A3 paper for yellow penning purposes just to work out visually how much of the network I have, as a one-off idle curiosity.

I prefer my Platform 5 TRACKatlas as a navigation companion on trips because of the more detailed track layout diagrams, meaning my Baker lies on the shelf almost untouched.

Maybe my Rail Atlas, should be my yellow penning record. I haven't enough interest to colour in individual pieces of track i.e. diffentiating directionally, but the more simple route-based cartography of Baker is perfect.

Anyone else go over the lines they had 'done' with a highlighter?
I just draw a line next to the lines I've done with a biro, complete with marking the year. Also make sure I take pics, thereby exactly dating my journeys.

PS. I got a mention in the Joe Brown "London Railway Atlas" (I think 3rd edition onwards). I very recently also bought his Brum atlas, though I didn't contribute to it!

I dont take it out but my Platform 5 Trackatlas is falling apart and getting out of date - are they ever going to release a new edition?

They have released various regional versions very recently so you'd assume there'd be a Fourth edition. I'm still on the Second Edition!

'TRACKatlas of Mainland Britain' 1st edition was published by Platform 5 Publishing Ltd in 2009, the 2nd edition 2012 and the 3rd edition 2017. So, maybe it's now due for an update unless the publishers have boxloads of unsold copies for the previous editions still to shift?

If there is to be a new one, I hope it will confine itself to projects already under construction rather than including in the main maps all kinds of things that may never happen. Oh - and sort out those awful London pages where National Rail lines are almost invisible.

Actually, I have two copies of the 14th edition GB & Ireland Baker, one I scribble in, and one I keep like new. Also a copy of the latest edition, which, strangely, I hardly refer to.

Maybe I'm just unlucky but I find that the way it is drawn, too many large stations and complex junctions straddle two pages and main lines head off one page, across the corner of another page, and onto another page maybe 12 pages away. But you can't please everyone, some compromise is inevitable.
