Apologies everyone, yes the 28th was a different incident, I received 2 letters , one for the 16th and another for the 28th. Both letters are the exact same.

I don't recommend saying you "learned from this experience" in the letter, because you clearly haven't.

Are the incidents the same? What were you stopped for on the 28th?

Hello everybody, terribly sorry for the late reply to this post. So, the outcome was, they allowed me to pay the fines for both occasions. The fines were pretty steep and the circumstances for each were different, but now I’ve learnt my lesson so won’t make these stupid mistakes again!

Most importantly, thank you all for your help and advice, it was very much needed to sort this problem out. Much appreciated.

Thank very much for the update. Whilst I’m sure you won’t deliberately try to avoid paying the correct fare in future, do make sure you don’t accidentally come to their attention again, as I suspect a third strike will mean prosecution. So always ensure any railcard is in date, and don’t be tempted to buy on board with an app - you must buy before setting foot on a train if ticket facilities exist at the station, and even if facilities don’t exist, you must buy with the app before boarding or alternatively from the train crew once on board.

Noted, I’ll do exactly that. Thank you again for your advice it has been beneficial.
