It seems to me that if there’s any delays, fast London services can cause trouble stopping in platform 3. In some cases, there have even been nonstop services running through platform 1 or 2 while something else is in 3, which I believe has itself led to incidents with trains being too fast over a crossover at the north end. So how about routinely sending stopping intercity services into platform 1? Thameslinks can use platform 2 all day, and morning Great Northern services can quickly get in and out of platform 1, as they’re just picking up passengers. Anglia terminators can terminate in 7 and depart from 6, making use of the shunt as a turnback. Thanks to the Werrington diveunder, Lincoln services can go into Platform 5, retimed to not interfere with any intercity services potentially requiring 5.

Why the need to shunt? I doubt Greater Anglia drivers sign anything north of Peterborough station itself.

The time taken to slow trains down and get them across to platform 1 isn't in the schedules since platform 3 has been built and become operational.

ETCS will mitigate this in the future by supervising approach speeds.

Of course ideally keep them in the platform, but there’s trains in both directions meaning 6 and 7 are not ideal. I’d say put them in 5 but the platform would need to be available in that part of the hour for intercity services

The handful of trains booked that way (says RTT for tomorrow) have identical running times into Peterborough and at most 1/2min departing.

RTT has most of them on 6/7 anyway. Even an hourly service shouldn't cause problems.

But then other services on the March route use 5, which is unavailable due to the Lincolns and LNERs at that time in the hour in my idea

One EM train per hour uses 5, so do occasional LNERs - and Lincolns can use 2B with a TL in 2A.
I agree with EC rather than TL using 1, but I think you are overcomplicating things.

Are we actually sure the "overtaking" services are not held at Fletton Junction, awaiting for the "Fast" to finish station duties, and keep them in order

Ah, I wasn’t aware both could fit in platform 2

On multiple occasions I’ve overtaken other services in the southbound platforms at Peterborough. Some morning LNERs have about 5 minutes in Peterborough, and if another train is behind it delayed, it will overtake to regain correct order

I've several times seen 700s parked in Westwood Yard so presumably the GA drivers sign as far as that - maybe not the entire yard, but one or two specific roads in it?

Definitely 12 car 700s.
You’re confusing a conversation about Greater Anglia terminating 755s (from Colchester/Ipswich) with Great Northern/Thameslink (GTR).

GTR do sign into Spital and Nene Sidings.

I doubt Greater Anglia sign any shunt moves, or access to any platforms other than 4-7. Happy to be proven wrong.

What are we trying to solve here?
Southbound LNER/OAO being stopped in P3 for 5ish mins as is sometimes timetabled. As a result, delayed passing service in wrong order gets held behind for 5 mins, or passes the stopped train through much slower P1 or P2, which means trains must either slow down a lot, or do an unsafe low speed crossover move (at high speed).

As someone pointed out above, if the trains through platform 3 are being timed in the same way as when they went through platform 1, because the improvement in journey times hasn't yet been reflected in the plan, then long dwells will result.

Been the best part of 20 years since Anglia Railways drivers went into Nene sidings.
