Flickr Useage

I've used Flickr for several years, ever since Fotopic (which I thought was great) sadly bit the dust, but since Smugmug took over it feels as if it is on the decline, and it feels as if fewer folk upload their railway pictures or interact with it these days - for whatever reason.

With the advent of smartphones, have more enthusiasts taken to video (YouTube) or are they uploading their photo's elsewhere I wonder?

My feed is as busy as ever.

Though, I would say that the imposition of the 1000 free photo limit did seem to drive some people away (there are a few dormant accounts with over 1000 photos which seem to have gone dormant around that period), but I only joined after that.

Also many older posters sadly pass away or no longer post due to ill health etc; or younger posters start college/University and no longer take the time to upload photos.

I wouldn't say on the whole it feels in decline, but that's my perception anyway.

I still use it and haven't seen a reduction in engagement for many of my contacts. My railway pictures have decreased simply because i haven't been out and about much and much of what is out there is just zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Being a "pro" subscriber that hasn't been a problem for me ( Flickr is my main phot storage medium) but i have seen an increase in John Smith (Number in crease by 1) accounts!

I tend to look at a few of what seems to be the largest railway Flickr groups - perhaps my perception is just playing tricks, or as @DarloRich says there's other factors at play, such as less of interest than their used to be - which I can relate to myself. You still see a lot of material when the 'heritage' loco's come out to play, and freight too, so perhaps the increasing number of multiple units is part of it as well.

I have tens of thousands of railway pictures and once I retire, this will be a project to upload to whatever site is "in" at the time. But for now, I don't have the time; I rarely get time to go out and take the photos and much of what is around at the moment doesn't interest me.

I used Flickr regularly until 2018 but I found that sorting and editing of photos after a trip away would take so long and for what gain? Especially after something like a gala or and open day where hundreds of people would end up posting similar shots of the same thing.

I used to pay for a Pro account but when the fee significantly increased a few years back, that made me decide to knock it on the head and leave my page at the max number of photos allowed.

I only tend to post on local Facebook groups these days but even then, I have to really consider if it's worth posting as my laptop is so stupidly slow, it's takes forever to open an image, let alone process it
