  • In May 2023, when the privatization of MÁV Vagon was announced, the construction of 157 new IC+ cars was mentioned in the first phase.
  • In the summer of 2023, the general manager of MÁV-Start deemed it necessary to purchase 300 different types of IC+ in order to preserve the role of the Hungarian railways.
Looks like the MÀV IC+ production has been suspended. However, MÀV need to modernise their regional and long-distance train fleets, and the Hungarian government is looking at quality second-hand units and locomotives from Western Europe instead of buying new rolling stock. Recently, MÁV started leasing used locomotives from Akiem and Nordic Re-finance. I wondered what other rolling stock MÀV can take on to modernise its regional and long-distance train fleets.

Can you provide some background on the options in the poll? Are they completely speculative or based on reporting about stock that MÁV are interested in?

It's completely speculative.

One that isn't on the list that may have some possibility is DB have put up for sale a handful of FLIRTs.

MAV IC+ coach production suspended - any idea why?

I thought the government was pushing domestic rolling stock production heavily as it was supposed to be cheapest, employ people, buy votes and so on. As I understand it, IC+ were being built in-house by MAV but with Siemens bogies. Has someone forgotten to pay the bills?

On the other hand, CRRC is planning to build a production facility in Hungary
