There are plans to use the 'mini 221' on a short length charter, according to this week's Rail mag.

On the PLEG site, it said they were hoping to use 221144 during their Central Rivers visit on 11th June (top'n'tailed with an 08 and a 57)

It was still there this morning between 0900-0930, I don't know what has happened since, I forgot to look this evening (the 57 was still there too - is that the new ATW livery on it?).

Was still there as of 23:00 as I noticed when I got off my train back from work.

From my contact at the VT Training Centre at Crewe.

The 221 will be used as a training set and it is hoped that it will be moved alongside the pendo currently in residence. There is no timescale on this at the moment though.

I can confirm that's correct. It's just for training purposes, much like the mini-Pendo at the Academy.

What an utter waste of a 2 car unit, I know I know the compressor problem, but how hard could it be to fit one, surely it could be used as a capacity buster, just couple it up to an out and back to depot diagram.

I understand that but this is a train not a training facility, it was made to transport people. On a side note what training will be undertaken on it?

£1.5 million or so per carriage in the first place?

Presumably they are still renting it from the ROSCO as well?

So they've now got a few Pendo carriages and 2 Voyager carriages at Crewe.. christ I hope their security is tight.

Couldn't you stick the Pendolino coaches in it and make it a proper train again? ;)

Yeah, its lucky we're not crying out for additional capacity on Voyager routes in the UK and can afford for this to be used as a training facility...

Not really - one of the Pedalo carriages is a driving vehicle, so even if the compatibility issues could be sorted out you'd have a train with three.... I'd better stop there hadn't I, just in case the DfT are reading this....:lol::lol:
