Plans to expand city centre pub into shop next door​

A pub in Leicester could temporarily close for refurbishments after plans were submitted to expand it into an unused shop.
The High Cross, owned by Wetherspoon, would undergo a £650,000 refurbishment if its application to Leicester City Council is successful.
The proposal would see the pub expanded into the empty shop next door in High Street, which Wetherspoon owns.
A spokesperson for Wetherspoon told the Local Democracy Reporting Service that work was expected to start on 2 September, subject to planning permission.

Amazing how many comments you see from people who have tried to use the 'vouchers' without success!

Blyth Wetherspoons is one of the better ones, its in a restored art deco cinema with the bar where the screen was and the upper circle seating still in place (You cant get up there though). In marked contrast to the Ashington one down the road which is probably one of the worst!

A few years ago I used Arriva day tickets to visit a clutch of the Northumberland ones. Memory suggests that of Ashington, Bedlington, Blyth, Cramlington, Morpeth, Wallsend and Whitley Bay, the Red Lion at Bedlington was the favourite and the Electrical Wizard at Morpeth number two. I agree about the ambience at Blyth, but I had a dreadful pint.

I see we have an opening date of this Tuesday for the new Waterloo pub and later in the month, 24th September for one in Marlow, hopefully both of which will be 'better than average Wetherspoon's'!

I don't hold out much hope for the one at Waterloo, being on the station it will be overpriced and I've had very few positive experiences at Station outlets before. I look forward to reviews

Will still be miles cheaper than the other station outlets. Unlimited Lavazza coffee an absolute steal at £1.56 at Hamilton Hall, Liverpool Street yesterday morning. Same price as Norwich. Why would you patronise any other nearby City of London establishment at that price?

I’ve had good experiences at the St. Pancras and Victoria ones in the last couple of weeks - indeed the coffee is so ludicrously cheap, I would rarely consider elsewhere if I had a bit of time to kill before my train!

I absolutely DO give my money to Sir Tim and have done for decades. My hero saves me a fortune and keeps me interested in visiting places across the UK & Eire I’d never consider otherwise.

Really?? I’m staff and not only use it as a messroom more than my messroom but even have my Tri-annual and other meetings with my manager in there. It’s only breakfast after all.

It's right next to Brewdog, if you know where that is. I believe the area is known as 'the Sidings'.

Are safety critical railway staff allowed in licensed premises whilst on duty then? Would have thought that was frowned upon to say the least, especially in uniform.
