Hello,

I am a visitor of the UK; and I got on the South Western Railway train from Clapham Junction to Woking where I tried to exist using an Oyster card which I thought was what I needed. I genuinely did not know the Oyster card was not valid for that journey. I was stopped by an officer, who I explained my ordeal to, however he went ahead and issued me a Report for Prosecution after asking for my name, date of birth and address. The reason stated on the report was 'NO TICKET'. I am very worried now, and do I have a chance to settle this out of court? or I would be needing a lawyer for court. I am really disturbed, not knowing what to do.This happened about 4 weeks ago and I have not received any writing from them as stated in the report for prosecution paper handed to me that day. Please advice me on what can be done now.

I emailed them a week ago, but they responded that my case is currently in queue, and that they will correspond with a letter when complete. I have about 4 weeks more to return home, that is leave the UK. What do I do now?

Welcome to the forum.

Practically speaking, give the railway a couple more weeks to get back to you. If you still haven't heard, email them again, explaining that you are leaving the country and giving them your new (i.e out of the UK) address.

Bearing in mind how protracted these things can be, id be tempted now to make sure they have my new address.
Whatever you do, don't ignore it and just go away. If you do that, you will be prosecuted and you well get a UK criminal record. This then might make things more difficult if you try to come back to the UK in the future.
