I made a few journeys a week ago on Arriva Midlands using a foreign card and now want to check journey history, but I failed to register my card. I remembered that it also happened a few years ago, with another operator and another foreign card as well.

Can anyone else confirm if this is a problem common to all foreign cards?

If what is a problem with all foreign cards?

You can thank GDPR for that. If you registered, then your travel purchases could be retrieved - but as you didn’t there is no way this info will be released with only a card number. It has nothing to do with where the card was issued. I’d be concerned if my journeys were available to be viewed simply by entering a card number.

I’m sure there’s plenty of examples of this, whilst not the example that the OP has posted if you look at the check for National Express West Midlands the only thing it asks for is your card number and expiry data.

You can access TfL journey history with just your card number and the verification details

But not with your payment card (debit/credit) alone. Which was the OPs point - the fact it was a ‘non-UK’ card is irrelevan!
Where did the OP say that they only wanted to enter their card number

Well I assumed that the OP tried a non-UK card at https://arrivabus.littlepay.com/arrivabus and this failed, whereas a UK card worked.

Although upon reading the OP again, the problem was not stated explicitly.

‘I failed to register my card’ - this is required to create a password to access travel history. Entering the card number was all they could realistically do!

AFAIK, the Littlepay portal for First Bus doesn't require you to "register" a card.

It is sufficient to enter the cardholder name and card details into their website, as shown in the screenshot below.

This will show your First Bus transactions across all their UK operations.

Looking at the Arriva link provided by @zero , the user interface and card detail requirements seem identical to First Bus.

Yes, after entering my foreign card details in this page (for Arriva), I couldn't get through the process to show my journeys.

There is no process after entering the card details - the journey history comes up.

Or do you mean that it wouldn't proceed after you clicked "Submit" with the correct card details entered?

If the "foreign card" isn't in your name, could it perhaps be something like the given name / family name being the other way round and not matching?

A card number on its own is not secure, you additionally would need Expiry/CVV which is what shows in the screen grab. I still believe the ‘foreign card’ element is irrelevant (especially if the company has already taken payments from it).

If I buy Citylink tickets on their website without logging in, I get the ticket, but does not show in my travel history (because I hadn’t logged in). When I do remember to do so, it is added to my ‘previous journeys’.

Your post #9 seemed to imply that a "password" was required, which is not the case with Littlepay.

All that is required are the details which are printed on the card.

It is. You get the password with Registering. It isn’t compulsory, but you don’t get access to previous journey data unless you logged in with the same details.

Yes. After I entered the details, it wouldn't proceed. The foreign card is in my name and I entered it as exactly printed on the card.

With Littlepay you just enter your card details and that it
We’re going round in circles here. They are a back office provider of payment services, not a transport operator. The customer is not the passenger but the relevant transport company and/or rocketing provider.

I can see no possible way for a transaction they process to be aggregated for viewing by the passenger in any meaningful way unless the transport provider offers it as a value-added process which would require (usually) an email address/password following registration.

With respect, you are misinformed on this subject.

Many bus operators now offer tap on, tap off ticketing using Littlepay, in conjunction with the Ticketer ticket machine system.

These operators provide a link to a portal - hosted by Littlepay - which allows passengers to enter their payment card details (as they would at an online checkout) and then view up to 90 days of journey and ticket history associated with that card, including the bus routes travelled on and the stops at which they tap on and tap off.

This is the link for Go South Coast, by way of example: https://mytrips.uk.littlepay.com/go-south-coast

The passenger is able to see the details of their travel including any capping that may apply to their fares.

Which is virtually identical to the image in message #10? So in addition to the name and card number, it requires an expiry date and CVV code. Whilst this is hardly idea for logging travel as it can only show what was travelled with that card, it would not if different payment cards were used. (I use a mix of credit and debit depending on purpose). By registering, all my journeys are correctly logged irrespective of which card was used - so I’m unclear how what you describe is any improvement?

Yet the OP explains that his journey history is unavailable, why would this be if 90 days of travel are routinely stored?

Indeed, but Littlepay shows more than tap-on / tap-off transactions and capping (plus the ability to challenge capping and request and receive refunds for miscalculations).

It shows all transactions made with the card details you entered, even multi-operator tickets.

I think @Buzby is either confused, backtracking or both.

@miklcct is only asking why a specific card is not being accepted by Littlepay to show the travel history using that card; they are not expecting a full travel history across multiple cards to be shown by entering only one card's details.

The name on the card is not checked by these portals, as I have gained access by just typing a random string of letters in the name field, as long as the exp.date and CVV are correct.

@miklcct have you tried with a UK card?

I avoid using non-UK cards for this as if the travel charges are incorrect I expect it would be a pain to sort out.

Not on Arriva, but I could successfully check history on Metrobus with a UK card.

I wonder if the OP is using a contactless app or watch when tapping on and off? Some banks use a different virtual card number for these so searching the portal with the physical card number may not work.

Transport mode allows linking between multiple cards on the same account, logging in with the physical card will show all the associated virtual cards.

Neither, I can assure you. You seem to forget the primary issue complained of - that of ‘foreign’ cards And travel history.

I am not "forgetting the primary issue".

The OP asked if there was an issue with accessing their history of travel on Arriva Midlands which they paid for with a specific "foreign card" (i.e. a card issued outside the UK).

  1. We know that Arriva Midlands uses Littlepay to process card transactions made on the bus.
  2. We know that Littlepay will ordinarily show the travel history for a specific card if those card details are entered on their portal.
  3. We know that this ordinarily works (refer to posts by myself and other posters).
  4. We know that this didn't work for the specific "foreign" card the OP tried to access Littepay with.

Are you perhaps confusing the meaning of foreign as meaning "outside the system" rather than "issued outside the UK"?

Otherwise I really don't see what distinction you are trying to make.

The OP's issue is nothing to do with passwords and registered user accounts with Arriva Midlands, both of which you have said are required to view the travel history and both of which are irrelevant to the OP's question.

Littlepay has global partners, so the possibility of them rejecting or defeaturing benefits simply because it is ’non-UK’ is perverse. I have used their service on a few occasions however the system (as you describe it) means that each payment card has its own ‘account’ (as it were) on their platform. My initial GDPR concern related to the claim that only a card number is required, when you actually require expiry and CVV code Unlike Oyster which will provide full journey history irrespective of financial payment type (excluding cash) as Virtual card wallets generate their own numbers and if you used your card, Watch, or phone the codes would be different and journey history impacted as to be less than useless.

By registering on a transport company’s website and linking to the cards used provides a similar experience to Oyster, as this wasn’t done you are then at the mercy of how Littlepay has been set up on the transport company used - this is hardly ideal snd open to confusion as to what info you can get. (Perhaps slightly less so if the Littlepay provides the web front end to passengers) however multiple accounts based on each and every payment card used is nonsensical.

As a regular passenger with Citylink my payments are only recorded if I remember to log in with username and password, should I forget, then the payment is certainly taken and ticket code emailed but does not show in my travel history. I recall Worldpay was the processor but Citylink’s processes are hardly unique for travel tickets, and a Euro denominated card was accepted without a problem, and showed on my travel history with everything else.

Nobody has claimed that nothing else besides the card number was required.

The entire reason for the thread is that the OP was unable to use a non-UK card, when there shouldn't be any reason for a non-UK card to not work.

No account is needed if you simply want to see your most recent trips.
