18:07 Edinburgh to Birmingham (16.08.24)

I noticed Fridays last Edinburgh to New Street was cancelled after Leeds which is unusual for this service.

This got me wondering, what would have happened to the passengers at Leeds for statioms south of Derby as I can't see any way to finish the journey and it seems like a decent number of taxis would be required... ?

Cross Country arranged replacement busses for passengers.

Edit: Their Journey Check page stated at the time:
Passengers should travel on the 2137 Northern service towards Sheffield. Road transport has been requested to run between Sheffield - Birmingham New Street, calling at all stations. This will depart Sheffield at 22:50.

Road transport will also be in place between Derby - Birmingham New Street, calling at Burton on Trent and Tamworth. This will depart Derby at 22:50.

Ah that explains the 00.05 Bus to new street that was showing on the departure board at Tamworth on Friday night then, thanks.

Did the buses actually run? "Road transport has been requested" sounds a bit unconvincing. It wouldn't be the first time road transport had been promised but failed to materialise!

It would be a massive kick in the teath to the passengers if it wasn't, but as you say, wouldn't be the first time...
