Managers get told the truth about how useless and incompetent they are by the public at these events. Can't have that now, can we.

Plus maybe thrm all being out of a job in the next few years mean they don't feel there's any point.

I don’t think your idea of what happens is borne out in reality. And post nationalisation, whatever it looks like, there will still be a need for managers so they won’t all be out of a job.

Well, that’s an interesting view.

As a veteran of many such events (as a manager) I can’t recall any personal criticism of myself or my colleagues. They were all cordial and many constructive comments were offered. Customers usually displayed a good level of understanding of financial constraints, congested infrastructure and political oversight, and appreciated discussion.

The worst incident that I can recall was when a vagrant sneaked in to an event to grab a free cup of tea and a biscuit.

Can I ask about the number of such sessions where you have taken the opportunity to impart the views expressed in your post?

To be fair, I’ve had a couple. Most memorably a gentleman who is perfectly described if you look up the word ‘Gammon’ in the modern urban dictionary, who was absolutely going off on one about 6 inches from my face. I asked him what he did for a living, and when he said “Merchant Banker“, after I suppressed a smirk I suggested that as it was a couple of years after the banking crisis, he might like to do a meet the manager in the lobby of his bank and see how he felt when some of his customers might not be entirely content with his bank‘s services. He promptly departed.

This put a smile on my face. Hilarious.

Is that Cockney rhyming slang?
