Hello! I've been trying to find this info online to no avail and it hasn't been mentioned by LNER yet.

Does anyone know if you're paid for the initial couple of weeks at the training centre (I presume this will be in York)? I am concerned about possibly giving up 2 weeks pay and making ends meet. All I can seem to gather so far is that they pay your travel (only on LNER services obviously).

Cheers for any info

I have never heard of any rail industry training that isn’t paid.

It would be illegal for them to not pay you under modern slavery rules.

Of course you are paid, from that first day of training you are an employee of that company.

For your travel you will be sent an LNER pass allowing travel on there services.

Just jumping on here to ask this (couldn’t find the other thread).

With Leeds and York depots for CX Hosts, what are the full time rosters generally like and what routes does either depot do?

I’d be grateful if someone can advise?

Leeds depot covers the routes to London and Newcastle. The also cover the branch lines to Skipton, Bradford, Harrogate and Lincoln.
York will cover mainly London, Leeds and Newcastle

Thank you for the insight, are you able to also shed light on the rest day pattern and the earliest and latest book on/off times at all please?

Good afternoon everyone! I have applied for a job with LNER customer host. I am still waiting to hear back from them but if everything goes well, what is the assessment day like and what happens? I am currently based in Leeds, so would the assessment day happen in leeds?

If i were successful where would the training be? and how long does it take?

Thank you in advance, I look forward to hearing your replies!

Top right hand corner, the search bar will provide results of what you're looking for in relation to LNER customer host. I have no experience in that area or with your other question but I'm sure you'll find that and more with a search on this good forum.

The following link will open that search up for you: LNER Customer Host Search

Can anyone explain to me what the actual talent pool is? I’ve applied for a Station Customer Service Assistant (Talent Pool) and have a video interview. I’ve had a video interview with them before for a customer host and didn’t get through. What is the talent pool and are you in with a chance or an actual job? Any tips on video interview as well because I didn’t get through last time. I know people say oh just be yourself but obviously it’s not entirely sufficient.

Speak to them and ask them for extra help with this but before the interview. They would have to do something to help you due to the Equality Act 2010 i would think.

A talent pool is effectively a 'holding pot' where there is no substantive role but you have passed the criteria/threshold to be successful post-interview. As a vacancy comes up, instead of starting a new recruitment campaign, the recruitment team will go to to the talent pool and ask them if they are still interested.

This is all in theory of course; recruitment teams are relatively small and people have been known to be in pools for years (mainly driver talent pools) and never contacted or a new campaign is started.

As for the interview, look up the STAR method and relevant customer service, safety & difficult situation scenarios as well as doing some background on LNER routes/traction/company

I’d echo @lae150 here. Reach out. LNER will be obliged to offer reasonable adjustments to make this accessible to you.

A reasonable adjustment you could suggest would be for a video (Teams/Zoom type) interview with a person instead, perhaps?

I’ve just done a telephone interview instead of video as I have ADHD and can’t get across what I want to say if there’s not an actual person that I’m talking to. I just emailed them and said I wasn’t comfortable with the video interview.

Good morning everyone, I can’t find anything about how long it takes to hear back from LNER, I submitted my video last Monday. How long do people roughly have to wait?

I had to wait 3-4 weeks after submitting the video interview before getting an in-person invite

Thank you for replying. Was the assessment bit like? And how long did you have to wait till you got the job?

Was just a competency based interview with a few questions around customer service and teamwork. The interviewer’s were very nice I must say. Haven’t heard back yet from the in-person interview but fingers crossed!

I did an interview for station support assistant at Kings Cross a few weeks ago. I put my CV in, got asked for a video interview about 12 hours later. About 3 weeks after submitting that, got asked to book an in-person interview, which was booked for about two weeks after that. Went and did the in-person interview, and got the phone call saying I got the job about 3 hours later. Just waiting to do my medical now, so I can hand in my notice. I'm looking forward to the new job immensely. Good luck all of you
