I would have thought about removing the third seat since no one really seats there and it makes it easier for passengers to pass each other. its like driving on a one-lane, two-way road that only fits one vehicle and drivers have to pull into a passing place if they meet oncoming traffic.

I've been in a train with every seat full and people standing up

I Mentioned earlier but was confirmed by this LinkedIn Post that the intial trip was down to seating reconfiguration modifications
Ah Brilliant thanks for that mate I’m suspecting they’ve removed most of the horrible 3x2 seating to longer up the isles if possible & give it a fresh look like some new modifications traction makeover, make the toilets look like they’ve never been used, making the interior look easier to move around as these trains do go on the airport runs a lot. 720511 is like the 1st ever unit to enter service back in 2020 with 720515 up next.

3+2 seating has not meet removed. There has been a couple of seats near door ways removed to make it easier to move in entrance.

It’s software mods, door lock mods nothing drastic and certainly not making toilets look brand new.

Apart from seats it’s all stuff the average passenger will not even notice

Oh yes the fold up seats by the door buttons. I’ll investigate the new software mods I suspect it’s nothing that exciting it’s to make the unit more fault free to give passengers less disruption more comfort .

I see quite a few 720’s in the Eurostar depot at Leyton yesterday (temple mills). Are they usually stored here?

They are not in the Eurostar depot!

It is Orient Way sidings, nothing at all to do with Eurostar.

They stable there between duties.

To be fair it is literally separated by a fence
Yeah it’s very close & confusing when you’re driving up the road coming off argall way. Normally it’s full of 745/1s tho as recently the new stansaid timetable has kicked in requiring now 9/10 trains on the diagrams instead of 4/5. As of the change orient way is pretty much taken over by the 720s for mainly peak hour or for backup incase of any train fault. A decade ago walking on the footbridge. I’d be seeing a huge variety of 321s, 379s, 360s & 90s mk3.

It's full of 745/1s over night and full of 720s between the peaks

Where do the 720s go overnight?
There’s probably a chunk of them stabled at Ilford, Liverpool Street, Colchester, Clacton, Southend and Cambridge overnight. It’s strange when you’re prepping a train in the early hours of the morning at Liverpool Street and there’s no one else there.

They used to stable Class 395's at Eurostar Temple Mills. But yes, Orient Way is at the North End of the Eurostar operation but within a totally seperated area of railway. There are no rail links between them.

And Bishops Stortford, one in Stansted, two in Hertford East (one 10 car), one in Aldersbrook and a few in Harwich International/the sidings next to it (seems to have been in the station instead of the sidings next to it recently). I think that's all

Does anyone know why this one has gonbe back to Derby.
Did it fail its testing period/more faults found?
I didn’t see any blue marking tapes on the front or rear cab ends like 720511, 515 has.

Very rare swap.

A 720 end car is currently in Longsight depot, Manchester. Oh how a fleet of these would suit Northern to see away the sweaty 323s!

Really that’s unusual! possibly the last 4 cars are being constructed still. Did you get the unit number on the seperate end car ?

There's been others (or at least one other 720) at Longsight before. I could be remembering wrong but I think it was for ETCS works or testing. Again I could be remembering wrong!
