Hi folks. Thanks in advance for any help provided.

I'll shortly be moving to Cardiff (near Central station), and will need to commute to Bristol Parkway 8-10 times per month. Usual 9ish-5ish office hours, but I need flexibility to be able go early or stay late on any particular day and in fact I might change the days at the last minute, so advance tickets are unlikely to be a good option. No railcards held.

The anytime day return is £18.60. The 8-in-28 flexi season is £17.60 per day.

Questions:

1) Is there a better option than the flexi season ticket? Splitting tickets or other clever suggestions are welcome.

2) Is there any extra validity I could get for free with a different station pair? For example, it might be useful to occasionally travel to Queen Street on my return, so I checked prices for Queen Street to Bristol Parkway, but it's quite a bit more expensive.

3) How do flexi season tickets actually work, and what's the best option to minimise having to use my phone at the station and on the train? I've had a couple of bad experiences of my phone misbehaving when having my ticket inspected, so I much prefer paper tickets or smart cards. I currently have a GWR smart card that I just use for Bristol area PAYG.

Thanks again.

Get a Flexi-season on a smart card, but a different one to the PAYG.
Thank you. Having two smartcards would be slightly annoying (though I don't expect to use the current one much in future), but great if I don't have to use my phone at all.
