Veolia Transdev..a new group name.

Whilst checking some research, I came across the news that VEOLIA TRANSPORT and TRANSDEV amalgamated on 7th March 2011 and have set up a new company called VEOLIA TRANSDEV.

The new group operate in 28 countries and have 119,000 employees.

First now have nearly 100% of all the bus routes in swansea & surrounding area's wish stagecoach would decide to pck a bit of a fight against first.

One of the most worrying aspects of this is that today, I saw a refuse truck with the word VEOLIA on its side. Is this an omen for the future. :roll:

The Veolia Environment business is, I believe, the larger section of the company.

When they took a significant number of contracts from local bus companies (and Stagecoach) in north east Nottinghamshire (back in 2006) the local press drew links between the bus contracts and a recently awarded refuse contract, which Veolia Environment had been awarded. Five years later, the buses are gone (they chucked in the towel a year early) but the refuse business is still on the go.

Transdev are a good company, i was hoping when they merged that the management would sort out veolia but it seems to have been made worse. They did try to sell the welsh operations to RATP who decided that they didnt want to touch it.

I have used some buses in the Burnley area who are in the TRANSDEV group as part of my research into matters appertaining to "THE TODMORDEN PROPOSED CHORD", which is a thread running on another part of the forum and found them to be quite good.

It is the same old company in Wales - Veolia Cymru is not part of the new VeoliaTransdev group.
