Sorry to sound like a back seat admin, but what is the plan for political discussion threads from here? The election has clearly passed, government business is underway and the Tory party leadership election is about to begin, which will all be new discussions.

I think it has been good to run the aftermath through to the summer recess, a point that we have now reached.

Maybe we should have a thread about the Conservative Party leadership election as they tear themselves apart. And one about the Labour Party as they tear themselves apart, which they are liable to do anyway. And one about the SNP as they…

Of course the market could have been managed if the Blair government had stemmed the flow of Eastern European workers, as other countries in the EU did, but he chose to fling the doors open and flood the country. To this day the left generally deny that this influx depressed wages for working class people despite the obvious truth.
The last part is true and directly led to the way people voted during the Brexit referendum

Last but by no means least, the Reform Party, its allies and its leader in particular as they attempt to tear the UK apart. I'm deadly serious about that.

Indeed. Many people seem to give Farage leeway because he's English and therefore "must be OK", unlike, say, Trump.

He is not. He is, in my opinion, a far-right extremist who lives off promoting hate. Not to mention a fraud who "claims to speak for the working class" despite his very privileged upbringing.

"I just wonder whether the truth is being withheld from us”, indeed. That comment alone shows what a repulsive, revolting and thoroughly nasty piece of work he is.
He is at least as bad as Trump, if not worse, because - perhaps unlike Trump - it seems to me that he actually believes in far-right nonsense, rather than merely using it as a route to power.

And he's significantly younger than Trump of course, which makes him potentially much more dangerous.

The sooner Reform UK is flushed down the toilet of history where it belongs, the better. A truly repulsive organisation.

I could perhaps understand this point of view if the types of industries we have now were the same as 40 years ago, but I feel that the main driver that is causing lots of places to struggle is the loss of skilled jobs in Factories, Mines, and Mills. These workplaces have largely closed, and the remaining working-class roles have been replaced by lower-skilled and lower-paid jobs in warehouses and the service sector.

It's a ridiculous statement really "the truth is being withheld from us". That's what due process is - the "truth" is withheld for a few days while it is verified to reasonable extent and preparations are made to protect the innocent (and the guilty) from angry lynch mobs.

I wonder if he sits looking at the presents under his tree at christmas demanding to know what they are, and angrily declaring to his nearest and dearest (if applicable) that "the truth is being withheld from me"

Didn't he go on about questions not being answered on his GBN show on the same day he could have (but didn't) attend the Commons where he could have questioned the minister directly?

This has to be the best way to insult a former PM: interview her without realising who she really is:

This is incredible in several ways, not least of which that I don't think there is another former PM that could go entirely unrecognised through an interview. But also - mainly - because it results in the BEST IMPROVISED PUT DOWN/SEGUE EVER on television.

Video attached

(Also, I would watch until the end where the guy in the studio says a belter of a pun)

Excellent

And she just stands there with that gormless look on her face.

Yes that's exactly how you deal with attention seekers, completely ignore them (although quite how Truss thinks she's doing herself any good trying to stay in the spotlight).

Time to wrap things up in this thread and have separate topics for each party again we feel. There’s two below for starters and thanks for contributing to the lively 40 pages worth in this one!
