My apologies, when I actually select to include Plusbus, it reverts to paper tickets. I was thrown by the first page where it indicated that they would be e-tickets and didn't go any further before asking the question.
Ah, fair enough! It's definitely not completely obvious if you don't know to expect that to change after adding the add-on.

I am searching for tickets from Guildford to Nottingham. Departing after 8am on Friday 9 August and returning departing around 19:00 11 August.

I have it set to intensive search and cheapest and it comes up with some options after 9am.

For example: 09:11 to Gatiwck Airport 10:06 to St Pancrase. 11:05 to Nottongham.

However if I navigate forward in time in grid format and then backwards again I then get additional tickets showing up.

For example the one above shows up but also the following:
09:11 to Gatiwck Airport 10:06 to St Pancrase. 11:05 to Loughborough. 13:29 to Nottongham. There is a long wait at Loughborough of 1 hour 2 minutes.

This ticket is cheaper than the one above and I had to navigate back twice to reach it, where as I only navigated forward once. Initally the latest ticket shwon was one departing 11:04 but when navigating back just once, it got as far as 09:45. Some of these other tickets are cheaper than the initial 09:11 that showed up.

How come the longer 09:11 journey doesn't show up first time, given it was cheaper and I selected cheapest.

This isn't a complaint, I am just trying to understand how it all works.

Something funny can sometimes go on when you navigate backwards and forwards in time - I notice this from time to time. I think it's been mentioned on this thread before and is a known issue.

Thanks.

I booked my train tickets but forgot about the seat reservations. To see them one clicks on the seat botton but I didn't even think to do that, as I was so focused on the timeings and prices. Something that says you can check your seats by clicking here might be helpful when on the summery page to remind people.

As I have to cross London the tickets are of course the creditcard size tickets. It will be interesting to see if I am required to travel on my booked trains to London or whether I can depart earlier. It will depend on whether I have counterplace reservations on the services south of London. I will find out once I collect the tickets. Not to bothered.

I'm now searching for another train ticket with a via Barnham routing but I keep getting the error:

Sorry, an error has occurred.

Received HTTP 422: No itineraries found for search No itineraries found for search
The thing is, there is off-peak single and even an anytime single for this journey via Barnham, that I am searching for so I don't know why it won't show up. The ticket does show on BRfares.

In this case I don't wish to disclose the start and end stations and ticket in question.

Without knowing the start/end stations and date of travel, it's difficult for Trainsplit to investigate why itineraries may not be found. If you're not comfortable sharing the information publicly for this sort of query, your best bet is to email customer.support@trainsplit.com with all the details and it can be looked at from there.

Are you still travelling? Claim delay repay from the train operator.

If you have abandoned your journey claim a refund from the point of purchase.

Are RailSail tickets possible? I keep getting HTTP422 errors and it fails the lookup. Tried Glasgow to Douglas IOM without success, then to Heysham (just in case the ferry was the issue) but got the same error.

Retail of the IoM Steam Packet fares was discontinued after it became apparent - following conversations with Steam Packet and a regrettable incident involving a customer being overcharged for entirely new tickets when attempting to board - that additional software engineering work would be necessary to give customers a good experience when booking these fares and travelling on Steam Packet's service.

I can get basic, through tickets from somewhere like Glasgow to Heysham Port. Note it doesn't have a very extensive service.

Yeah in this instance I'd recommend the new/beta site here - taking a look with the lack of a very extensive service, I was able to get the old site to error when doing a return search as it couldn't find a return journey within the window, but the new site does some things differently so it _should_ find the next available return if it can.

It is on my very, very long list of things for the old site to look at improving this...

Bit of an odd one here, the beta is trying to take me on a convoluted routeing from London to Cholsey, involving a train to Guildford and then up into Reading. The link is here. Stopping at Vauxhall is specified as I will be starting short there but travelling back into Paddington or Waterloo. TrainSplit is failing to recognise the route via Ascot for some reason. If you specify a further pass through Ascot it will correctly identify the Off Peak Return with no problem, also identifying it as ~10 minutes quicker, the same amount of changes and £10 cheaper than the route involving splits through Guildford. It therefore seems very strange it can’t notice it is a possible route, even using intensive search.

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

To add to this it just seems to not recognise the route exists without help, rather than just filtering it out. If you use the open return function just specifying via Vauxhall it finds no results, if you add a pass through Ascot, leaving in the via Vauxhall, it suddenly identifies the 3 valid open tickets.

I have a query on the ticket type offered which seems to be at odds with the restriction:

1846 Euston - Rugby on a Saturday.

The forum ticket site offers me a 'Super Off Peak Single' for £20, however it also has restriction LG, so is the ticket valid or not?

Restriction LG:
This restriction applies Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday Mondays-Saturdays (for Sundays and Bank Holidays, see 'Notes')

Outward Travel:
Not valid for travel on services timed to arrive London Terminals before 13:00.

Not valid for travel on northbound services timed to depart any station before 10:30.

Not valid for travel on services timed to depart the origin station on the ticket after 15:59 and before 19:01 in either direction.

A connecting service can be used to complete a journey begun at a valid time.

Looks like the electronic restrictions have been set up incorrectly.

They only prevent use of that ticket before 1820 on Saturdays, and before 1900 on weekdays, and also allow travel at exactly 1650 for some reason.

You might have issues using it at Euston, but if you choose to buy it anyway and have issues, just get in touch with customer support and we'll try our best to get it sorted out.

Thanks, so essentially the ticket is not valid despite being offered for sale?

It's valid if you purchase it against an itinerary from an accredited retailer, like the forum's site.

The train operator has made an error in either the data which is used by journey planners, or the human readable restriction information.

Because the ticket has been issued with an itinerary by an accredited retailer, it is valid on that itinerary regardless of any restrictions.
It probably shouldn't have been issued and someone set up the computer data a bit wrong, but it's valid.

We have this discussion about once a month

Journey planner and booking engine are all working correctly, as designed, with information provided by the operator

Suspect it's a bit of a niche thing, but a +/- day feature might be handy. Use case in my circumstance is I'm trying my hardest* to justify using a train rather than driving to visit the real north east (as in Moray Firth not where I live) and am somewhat flexible on the dates so comparing prices quickly between days would be nice.

*Doubt I'll be able to justify it tbh but that's not your fault

Edit: Also on posting it turns out that this is my 1000th post so please treat it with the reverence it deserves in your response. You may address me as "the venerated one" or more respectful terms only. Any subsequent posts, of course, you may return to calling me anything you like, although I like "the benighted one" as it sounds posh but isn't.

It's a great suggestion, and one that I think would lead to even more passengers being able to identify fares that are priced right for them. This would lead to increased revenue overall. Sadly, Rail Delivery Group have decided they won't let us query more than a small number of journeys within a small time window at once, so it's not something we'd likely be able to implement, unless we ignored Advance fares.

Interesting, was the incident the fact that the passenger needed to be manually booked onto the ferry?

This has previously been a stumbling block with any attempt to digitalise this ticket being that there was a need for the customer to ring Steam Packet to make the actual ferry reservation.

Yes, though for reasons I still don't understand, this was resolved by a) telling the passenger their ticket was "completely invalid" and b) just charging the passenger an expensive on-the-day fare in order for them to booked onto the next service! So, they paid twice. And then they complained to the retailer about it.

I appreciate they probably have their own reservation system but you'd have thought they could've come up with something better than this. Maybe some connection to RARS or something...

I think if we ever sell them again, we need to automatically email the customer and CC Steam Packet for every new booking to request a reservation, as well as add warnings into the booking flow to make sure customers understand that ferry departures aren't guaranteed at all. Raileasy weren't keen on spending the time to do this, given how often the fares were actually purchased.

Sounds about right, I remember the only Third Party Retailer that I had ever seen sell before yourselves was RailEurope and it did actually come with some useful information that you must ring Steam Packet once you have the tickets, however I imagine that customers still ignored that.

Sadly given the mess that ScotRail have made with their CalMac connections I can’t see much changing, especially as you say with the volume of traffic generated.
