My partner and I (with a Two Together card) are off to take in a bit of the old country next week. We'll probably need some flexibility, so would like to avoid Advance tickets.
Planned itinerary:
Thurs Aug 1st Depart Bedminster (or Bristol TM) any time after 10.30am - > Blackpool South (pref to arrive before 7pm)
Monday Aug 5th Depart Blackpool South around 11am, travel to Wigan (either Wallgate or Northwestern) via side trip for an afternoon in Liverpool - to arrive Wigan before 8pm.
Tuesday Aug 6th Depart Wigan (any station) around lunchtime, travel to Leeds - to arrive anytime before evening.
Wednesday August 7th Depart Leeds around noon, travel back to Bedminster.
I'm currently looking at 2 x open off-peak returns Bedminster to Stockport at £145.90 with TT card, and then 2 x Freedom of the Northwest card (4 days in 8) at £127.70 with TT card, for a total of £273.60.
I'm aware I could save a few quid by routing to Chester or Warrington Bank Quay to reach the boundary of the Rover, but I think the time penalty on the return leg, (where we'll have to travel from Leeds to wherever we've bought the open return ticket destination) would make it not worth while. Also, being able to start back on Cross Country from Manchester sounds like a better bet for getting a seat back to Bristol!
I *think* I'm happy with that, but I'd be grateful for any suggestions of how it could be improved. And also, it'd be handy to know which Cross Country trains to Birmingham start at Bristol.
