Hi,

I'm travelling (with 11 year old son) across Europe to Czech Republic next week. Much of the journey was to be covered by a Nightjet train from Cologne to Vienna. We then have a separate ticket from Vienna into Czech Republic later on the same day.

I had an email yesterday that there had been a timetable change and the night train, on which we have a reservation, seems to have been taken off the timetable!

Does anyone have any experience of this scenario? Due to travelling with a child, I cannot just pick up any other service travelling overnight as the whole idea was using the night train as a hotel, so would need to travel the day before. Can I cancel both tickets (ie the nightjet and the separate ticket into Czech Republic) and expect a refund? Does OBB have any obligation to pay for accommodation for the night that we now won't be on the night train?

It's all a bit of a shame and OBB not very responsive so far...

Thanks for any advice...

What's your travel date?
What's the train number or departure time? On some days, there are 2 trains (from Brussels and Amsterdam).

On Monday 29 to Wednesday 31 according to the OeBB booking engine (not the Scotty planner!), the Amsterdam train runs an hour early in NL and calls at Koeln-Deutz NOT Hbf but reservations are temporarily suspended. On Thursday and Friday the Koeln stop is not shown at all, but the Duesseldorf one is.

Did the mail say the train had been cancelled?

(Note - there is also the Brussels train which calls at K-Ehrenfeld, I assume it's not that one?)

Hi
It's 31/7/24 train 40421
I just looked at the OBB timetable again and it looks to me now that the train is rerouted and simply not stopping at Cologne, but will go to Dusseldorf (which we could get to from Cologne).
Assume I can just get my ticket stamped at Cologne to get on a connecting train??
I'm reasonably good (though not expert) at journey planning but this is all very confusing...!

It said the train is changed!

Our replies have crossed - I am sure you will be shown discretion by DB, they are good at that, allow plenty of time for delays though!

Yes, the DB planner shows the train is diverted from Düsseldorf till Würzburg due to staff shortage at stellwerk Hanau. So no stop in Cologne at all.
The adjusted times in the Netherlands have to do with works at Ede-Wageningen, but according to the timetable it is diverted via the Betuweroute and thus that doesn't affect stops in Germany.

DB and ÖBB don't seem to agree about how much earlier they will depart between Amsterdam and Düsseldorf... ÖBB says around 1 hour earlier, DB says 35-38 minutes earlier in Amsterdam and Utrecht, and an hour earlier in Arnhem and Düsseldorf, which seems strange to me.

There are warnings on both sites to keep checking - I would certainly be prepared for the hour earlier departure from Duesseldorf as per DB.

Looks like DB is mixing up the regular timetable and the adjusted timetable. DB is quoting times one hour ahead of the regular timetable in the warning message, but the timetable is already adjusted to account for the diversion via the Betuweroute taking half an hour longer. OeBB correctly mentions departure one hour ahead of the adjusted timetable at all Dutch stops.

That's all very helpful, think we have a plan now. Thank you all for your help.
