Quick question, I'm taking my nephews, who will both be 15 at the time, to Italy and using high speed and Inter-City trains, do they still count as child fares as some sites say 14 and some say 15 inclusive? Went to get it right before buy tickets.
Thanks in advance.

Seat61 says under 15, if that's a good enough source? (Though only long-distance, Regional is Under 12 and private operator Italo is Under 14)

Thanks, Trenitalia itself is vague, it says 4 to 15 years but not sure if it's inclusive or not (in Italian says non compiuti, if anyone speaks good Italian and can translate, Google just says not yet completed so could take that as anyone who is still 15).
They concur on regional, though, so know I have to pay full fare if on regional trains!

'Not yet turned' is perhaps a better English translation, when taking about ages.
Ok thanks so assume 15 is considered an adult? Triples my costs and annoyingly they turn 15 the day we go!!!

It seems like it.

By all means get a second opinion though, please do, but that's my (and Seat61's) interpretation anyway.

I certainly agree it's an annoying age cutoff!

The Family/Bimbi Gratis Offer states under 15 years of age on Trenitalia

Offer for groups from 2 to 5 people, of whom one at least is a child of less than 15 years of age and one is an adult, entitling to the following discounts:

So for 15 years old and over you will have to fork Adult pricing

Note that the YOUNG fare you may find on Trenitalia is only accessible by CartaFRECCIA holders.

If the (Super) Economy fares aren't available on the Frecce services you are looking at, it may be worth it to get the Carta for them.

The process is a lot more cumbersome from abroad (can't open it online without a codice fiscale (only available to Italian residents) :

Fill the above form and send it over to cfreccia.application@trenitalia.it, they will create the card and an account. Expect that to take a few days.
