Liz Truss is very unhappy with the King's Speech, maybe she should write to her MP.
Yes it is still in the ownership of HS2. Safeguarding has been lifted on 2a but not 2b yet. HS2 Ltd are currently awaiting ministerial direction on what to do next. Based on my own very limited experience, I am optimistic.Any mention anywhere of whether the land is still government-owned and/or safeguarded for Phase 2a and any parts of Crewe-Manchester that aren't part of NPR?
That's good news. Burnham was working with Andy Street on reviving 2a in some form - I hope Street's Labour successor is continuing to look at this.Yes it is still in the ownership of HS2. She was unhappy with the briefing notes and got Head of Civil Service to amend them on website. The version yesterday morning named her in a negative way, but Civil Service documents should show impartialityLiz Truss is very unhappy with the King's Speech, maybe she should write to her MP.
Indeed, this is the problem. There is a growing underground economy where illegal immigrants arriving unnoticed into the UK are being swallowed up. This is made all the worse because many jobs are driven underground because employers find it increasingly difficult to find legal employees for some of the most basic work, either because of low wages & high cost of living or people not being quite as prepared to start at the bottom in remedial work. Sadly as these jobs are driven into the shadows, they increasingly get wrapped up with the criminals seeking to profit on trafficking people in & other nefarious activities for which they can exploit those illegal immigrants.I used to watch the TV series UK Border Force when it was on in the late 00s. The programme typically focused on interesting immigrant cases arriving at Heathrow, searching lorries at Calais and border force raids on workplaces suspected of housing illegal immigrants. The latter example in particular included at least one restaurant and a food processing plant among examples I remember. The illegal workers were typically being exploited by receiving wages under minimum wage and they also usually lived in the premises they worked at, sometimes even behind "secret doors/passages". The end result was the workers being deported and the owner of the guilty business(es) being fined for "employing" them.
If the series were revived and done today, I would expect scenarios to be similar but also be extended to cover the gig economy. Food delivery companies and their dodgy work practices must surely be a hotspot for illegal immigrants, given how easy it's to sign up and go under the radar (even to the point of loaning accounts to others, which includes child labour). On a side note you could probably catch most of the illegal electric bikes operating in the UK.

Farage is there too and tonight will be Trumps acceptance speech. Last night his grand daughter Kai Trump gave a brief speech in support at the RNC. Meanwhile Biden has officially been diagnosed with COVID and missed a speech in Las Vegas and is resting up in Rehoboth Beach, DE.It was supposed to be a dig at Truss's apparent greater interest in travelling to the USA and supporting Trump than the domestic political scene.
When's the next time Farage will be seen in Clacton? Late Autumn or Winter?Farage is there too and tonight will be Trumps acceptance speech. Surely Farage or Truss are not going to speak at the RNC are they?
Well let’s be blunt - he ain’t really interested in his constituents is he?When's the next time Farage will be seen in Clacton? Late Autumn or Winter?![]()
Yes, I'm in agreement with what you're saying, I was just pointing out the irony of Truss having to complain to her local MP, that MP now being Labour in her ex-seat and in Greenwich, where I believe she has a propertyIt was supposed to be a dig at Truss's apparent greater interest in travelling to the USA and supporting Trump than the domestic political scene.

Farage probably, Truss probably not.Surely Farage or Truss are not going to speak at the RNC are they?
Farage already has spoken, but he had a very low audience when on his own. Believe it or not neither Farage or Truss are extreme enough for the current GOP it turns out.Farage is there too and tonight will be Trumps acceptance speech. Plus GOP does not like foreigners …Farage already has spoken, but he had a very low audience when on his own. Believe it or not neither Farage or Truss are extreme enough for the current GOP it turns out.
The US - and Trump’s mob in particular - won’t be interested in Truss. She’s a loser.Farage is there too and tonight will be Trumps acceptance speech. Some of the white ones are OK providing they don't have radical European socialist communist ideas.Plus GOP does not like foreigners …

He was in Milwaukee yesterday and mentioned this on his show last night. He said a friend nearly died and he was there to support him. Also talked about his near death experience but I'm sure he's got plans to be in his constituency or he'd never live it down in the house! When's the next time Farage will be seen in Clacton? He has the highly problematic West Dulwich station for one not far from his constituency,Liam Conlon MP for Beckenham and Penge, and son of Sue Gray (the person accused of subverting the Cabinet over Northern Ireland's Casement Park football ground) has been selected as PPS in Louise Haighs transport team because he is passionate about accessibility

Wonder if that means DfT will be focusing more on accessibility?
Well it will certainly mean that Starmer's chief of staff will be up to speed with DfT matters.........Liam Conlon MP for Beckenham and Penge, and son of Sue Gray (the person accused of subverting the Cabinet over Northern Ireland's Casement Park football ground) has been selected as PPS in Louise Haighs transport team because he is passionate about accessibility

Conservative MP Victoria Atkins has been criticised for her behaviour during a parliamentary debate as she attempted to loudly interrupt another MP.
A video of the incident on Friday shows the shadow health and social care secretary standing at the despatch box and speaking over Labour's Steve Reed, while deputy speaker Christopher Chope calls for order. Mr Chope then tells the chamber: "The right honourable lady has behaved abominably."
Labour MP Perran Moon said Ms Atkins' behaviour was "an absolute disgrace" and called for appropriate action to be taken.
Ms Atkins' office said she was "trying to get answers" during the debate.
Lib Dem MP Helen Morgan, who was in the room during the row, spoke of the incident in a post on X, external.
"I witnessed this first-hand. The Conservatives proved the electorate got it right: they are not fit for government", she said.
Josh Fenton-Glynn, Labour MP for Calder Valley, also posted, external: "I think the fact you don’t get to speak as much in opposition is hard for them [Conservatives] to get used to".
The incident happened as Environment Secretary Steve Reed spoke during the planning, green belt and rural affairs debate in the Commons.
A spokesperson for Ms Atkins' office said: “Conservative MPs were trying to get answers about their budgets for farming, flood defences and food security, which the minister ignored.
“She will always stand up fearlessly for farmers and our rural area in Westminster, even if that means a rare admonishment from the Chair.”
Closing the debate shortly after the brief row, Mr Reed, Labour MP for Streatham and Croydon North, said: "I thank all members who have taken part in this constructive and insightful debate for their perceptive contributions and their dedication to making progress on important matters.
"After 14 years of chaos, there is once again hope for our environment, hope for our countryside, and hope for our rural communities."
If the Tories want to return to government at the next election, they could really do without Atkins going off on one:

They won’t. They will be out of office for a while- at least two 5 year terms. If the Tories want to return to government at the next election, they could really do without Atkins going off on one:
It was widely considered in 2019 that the 80 seat majority gained by Boris Johnson would last more than one term. No government had lost an election from such a strong starting point. This Labour majority is in some ways relatively fragile in that it relied on other parties (especially Reform) taking votes away from the Conservatives. It does seem unlikely, but it’s not a given that couldn’t reverse at the next election, especially if Farage does something to alienate his voters. They won’t. They will be out of office for a while- at least two 5 year terms.
